Author’s Note: Written for the 2018 Kingsman Stocking Stuffer event, for Anarchycox, for her prompt "Merlin running the most terrifyingly organized secret santa event ever, like everyone is sure that they will die if they spill who they have or break the rules, but his people will have a magical christmas surprise or else." This was a great jumping off point for something that went quite a bit differently, but I hope they enjoy it.

June looked at Mozzie and shook her head. “Are you sure you want to do this? It’s dirty and dusty and a little bit dingy down there.”

Moz just grinned at Neal’s landlady and his friend. “One of the keener joys of my life is rummaging through other people’s discarded stuff. You never know what you’re going to find. People throw away the most amazing things - particularly here in New York. Once the new is made old by something newer, it become worthless to the the ones who need to have the newest of the new.”

June sighed. She really didn’t quite follow that, but she didn’t really have to. Moz was dry soaping his hands in anticipation of the contents of her basement.

“What was the best thing you ever found?” June wasn’t sure she really wanted to know the answer to that question.

Moz thought for a moment. “It would either be the blue-eyed brunette who currently occupies your guest suite - though technically he was covering himself in newspapers to keep warm in a snow storm, or a complete George Jensen flatware service for twenty-four, including fish forks and knife rests.”

June wisely kept silent as she unlocked the cellar door and flicked on the light. She didn’t go down there frequently, but it was regularly seen to by an exterminator service. In fact, she was content to let Moz rummage without her standing by. The basement gave her the creeps.

“Mozzie - you have fun down here. We’ll be able to come to an agreement on whatever you want to haul out.” June backed away from the basement door.

He wasn’t even listening. Mozzie’s eyes were on the huge wooden crates marked “This End Up.” Byron put them down here thirty years ago, and June had never looked in them. Suddenly, she was worried. Her husband sometimes brought home his business and June wasn’t sure what Moz was going to find when he opened those boxes.

She just hoped she wouldn’t have to explain to Neal that out of the blue, Moz decided to take a very long trip.

Written for my awesome flist - I'm filling a bunch of the prompts I gave in Promptfest IV.  Most of these will be short and fluffy, sort of mental candy breaks...I hope you enjoy.

“You’re not going to do this, Neal. You know what will happen if you do.”

Neal stood there, arms crossed over his chest, resolute, determined. “Peter I am so going to do this. You can’t stop me.”

Peter threw his hands up in frustration. “I don’t know why I even try. You’ll do what you want, without any consideration for the consequences.” He paced back and forth in the too-small confines of his office.

“I don’t know why you are making such a big deal out of this. It doesn’t affect you in the slightest.”

Peter stopped pacing and stared at Neal, he couldn’t believe that Neal would say that. “Of course it affects me. You’re going to put yourself in for a world of hurt, some pretty serious pain. You’re my friend and my partner, and it’s my right to make sure you don’t injure yourself.”

Neal sighed, frustration and affection warring within him. “Now you’re just being overprotective. There is no reason to think that anything out of the ordinary will happen. I’ve done this plenty of times before.”

Peter just shook his head. “Okay, but don’t come running to me when you’re in trouble.”

“Damn it, Peter – I’m just going across the street to buy some frozen yogurt, I'm not B.A.S.E. jumping off the roof of the FBI building.”

“You get brain freeze, Neal. I’ve seen what happens to you. You just stand there, with a hand slapped over your eye. I’ve seen you stop in the middle of the street and nearly get run over by a bus.

“I promise I’ll be a good boy and not eat it until I get back to the office. Satisfied?”

Peter sighed, and knowing that there were no way he was going to be able to stop Neal, he pulled out his wallet and handed his partner a five dollar bill. “As long as you’re going, how about bringing me back a small vanilla-chocolate swirl, with chocolate sprinkles. And I want my change.”

Neal snagged the money and bolted out of Peter’s office. He was all of the way down the stairs when he remembered something. Instead of returning back to his office, he simply called out, “You want a cherry on top?”

Hughes just happened to walk out of his office at that moment. He stopped, looked at Peter, looked at Neal and just shrugged. There were just some things he really didn’t need to know about.

The prompt was actually engendered in a comment thread on jrosemary’s journal, and wondered why there were no Jewish characters in a show set in New York City.
