!!!!!PROMPFEST IV IS CLOSED!!!!!
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS PARTICIPATED - WRITERS, CHEERLEADERS AND READERS.
I love my flist. You know that, don't you? You're a bunch of incredibly special people - you write, you read, you live for White Collar (well, at least most of you do). But you've got busy lives, and maybe the writing isn't coming so easily these days. I know that's been a bit of my problem too. What I've found is that there's nothing like jumpstarting the muse with a game of prompts.
The premise is as simple as - you take a prompt, fill it and give me a prompt in return, I fill it and give you back a prompt, and so on and so on. I think the longest chain of prompt and fill that I had was 7 from
photoash and she got 6 in return.
I like to make these things as stress free as possible - rules are really only boundaries to completion. You can write whatever you want - and that means adult RPF/RPS, too. (I say "adult" only because I've seen some kiddie RPF stuff in non-WC fandoms, and I just don't want anyone to get into trouble). If you don't like a prompt, don't be shy about saying so, and I'll be happy to reprompt you. If you want do write something outside of the WC fandom, or you want me to write something, that's fine too. If you want me to prompt you in a specific way, just ask.
This is all about having fun, writing and spreading the WC love. It's also about a prize, too. I've got what my people call chuzpah...which sort of roughly translates to "proudly having no shame." One of my flisties (and you know who you are), pointed out that the October edition of
In New York was featuring Matt Bomer on the cover. This is a free magazine that's distributed to high-end hotels in NYC. I wrote to the publisher and asked if I could buy a few copies - since I don't hang out in high end hotels in the City. To make a long story short, they sent me (gratis) a bunch of copies of the October edition with the lovely, lovey Mr. Bomer on the cover. A few are already committed, but I am offering one as a prize to the member of my flist who can complete the most fills over the next week or so (which is sort of the natural life of these fests). I will ship anywhere on the planet.
And if Mr. Bomer doesn't do it for you, I've got one of the Peter Burke FBI business cards autographed by Tim DeKay, and this picture:
So, let's get started! I personally like my prompts abstract and opened for intepretation, but I know that some people like to write to more specific prompts (and if that's what you want, let me know). Also, if you want a fill to be gen or OT3 or fluff or crack or schmoop, please don't hesitate to ask.
The first round of prompts is based on my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest and the Cascades:
Peter - Forest
Elizabeth - Waterfall
Neal - Stars
Mozzie - Sunrise
June - Sunset
Alex - Spider
Hughes - Moon
Bancroft - Rivers
Fowler - Tall Grass
Satchmo - Lake
Bugsy - Fields
But if you want to write something else, please - please, DO IT!
And remember - you should take your fills and republish them to the comms. ETA: NEW PROMPTS FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to Roget's Thesaurus and opening up a page at random and pull words for each character. (OK - Guys, you're not going to believe this, but the first page I opened up to starts with "Catch, take" and ends with "Theft". Page 349, 480.17-482.1 from the 5th Edition. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. I did another page, and landed on 430 - Freedom)
Peter - Commandeer or Unconditional
Neal - Purloin or Exempt
Elizabeth - Restore or Uninhibited
Mozzie - Liberation or Independent
Diana - Grasp or Unfettered
Jones - Capture or Abandoned
June - Recovery or Spared
Lauren - Squeeze or Freehanded
Hughes - Clutch or Self-Reliant
Bancroft - Occupy or Unaccountable
Fowler - Recommit or Detached
Ruiz - Assume or Licensed
Satchmo - Milk or Freed
Bugsy - Monopolize or Run Wild
ETA x 2 - I inadvertently left prompts for Alex off of the list. Also, if you want to mix and match characters and prompts, don't hesitate:
Alex - Atonement or Irresponsible
ETA x 3 - Still more prompts for everyone (these were generated by using the MW Desk Thesaurus (which is alphabetical, not thematic):
Peter - Prevail or Quarrel
Neal - Dust or Cogent
Elizabeth - Embellish or Mitigation
Mozzie - Rummage or Encompass
Alex - Hesitate or Patience
Diana - Hunt or Occasional
Jones - Predator or Clout
June - Light or Projection
Lauren - Relish or Delinquent
Hughes - Dissect or Escape
Bancroft - Gallant or Morass
Fowler - Outweigh or Basic
Ruiz - Command or Erase
Satchmo - Resume or Appreciate
Bugsy - Cure or Fun
As before, mixing up the prompts is just fine. The goal is to remain interested and to keep on writing.
HAVE FUN!
