A few notes before we begin: I started writing this for whitecollarhc’s Abduct-a-Palooza II: Diamond Exchange Tag ‘fest, but it wasn’t finished in time for that challenge. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a story in a serial fashion - one relatively short chapter a week, and I thought this story would be a good candidate for that.

I know this isn’t the first time I’ve crossed over White Collar and Law & Order: SVU, with similar circumstances (Even the Stars Are Not Safe in Heaven), but the stories – and the roles played by the crossed over characters are very different.

Neal’s outrage over comments against gay marriage spark a sea change in him, and little does he know that his life-partner of nearly thirty years has been thinking along those very same lines. A/N: I started this story back in August, 2012, shortly after the Chick-fil-A debacle hit the newspapers, for my dear friend, coffeethyme4me. I got stalled, distracted and diverted with Real Life things, and finally made my way back to this a few weeks ago (when I should have been working on my Poly Big Bang). For those of you who like the Wonder(ful) Years ‘verse, you’ll be happy to know that this story sets up at least two case-fic sequels.

Peter had, as was his habit, snagged the section with the crossword puzzle, and was hard at work filling in the answers. It was Monday, and the puzzle was barely a challenge. Summary: Part of the Wonder(ful) Years ‘verse, and is set at the end of Peter and Neal’s years as undergrads at Harvard in 1986. They are home for their last Winter Break before graduating, and plan on coming out to Peter’s mother and father, but fear the consequences of telling that truth. A direct sequel to Love How You Want to Love (and love who you will), which should be read first (a lot of things will make more sense).

A/N: I had started this shortly after finishing the original story, The Wonder(ful) Years, but got sidetracked by other parts of Peter and Neal’s story in this ‘verse, and life in general. A few days ago, I read this article in the New York Times, Helping a Gay Child to Come Out, and learned that October 11 is National Coming Out Day, (Today, October 11 is also, ironically, Matt Bomer’s birthday), and I knew I had to finish it for this important date. This story is dedicated to every parent who has had the courage and the decency to love and accept and honor their children – straight and gay and every shade of the rainbow that falls in between.
