As promised, I'm starting another round of the Thirty-Day Photo Meme. I've been missing your feedback and interaction and I hope you enjoy these photos and the commentary enough to let me know.

Day 1 - A Photo With Water In It

Canon Beach, Oregon
February, 2003
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
My dear friend, David, is one of the most gregarious people I know and one of the great joys in his life is introducing one set of friends to another set. At the time this picture was taken, I had known David for about a decade and had been a frequent visitor to his home in Seattle. On this particular trip, he took me down to coastal Oregon to introduce me to two of his oldest friends, Connie and Mike, who he’d known for close to forty years. Despite our age difference, he thought we’d have a lot in common.

He was right. Mike was a linguistic anthropologist and his wife, Connie, was an artist who loved to feed people. The weekend was magical. And of course, the setting didn’t hurt. David got me up a little after dawn for a walk along the beach, which was when I took this photograph.

I know what you mean. For a combination of reasons, I'm no longer friends with any of my college friends, and I really miss them sometimes. I think about reaching out, but then I think it's been too long.

A couple of years ago I tried adding my old roommate/friend on facebook, and she never added me back though her settings were public such that I could see she was adding other people. Considering that I didn't have anything negative with her, just a lapse of years, that was enough to scare me off adding others.

I got into fandom with my best friend from college (after college) and, in the midst of a major depressive episode, I seriously dropped the ball on some things in a group we were both a part of, planning a big event. I haven't talked to her since. This was in 2000 so it seems ridiculous to contact her now, but I really do miss her.

I hope you do. My best friend since junior high and I often have lapses of years between getting in touch when life gets in the way and yet we just pick up right back where we were whenever we do get back together. True friendship will last the test of time.

That's an evocative photo, and it has a wonderful story.

I'm a tech writer. I completely sympathize with discussing the grammatical correctness (or not) of a ketchup label.

Beautiful! I have a sudden yearning to visit Oregon, or at the very least a beach somewhere.

Having lived within easy reach of a beach until I was 40, it's sometimes tough to be landlocked now.

In keeping with its aquatic setting, this rock and it's reflection look like a giant fish to me!

I am so glad you have chosen to do another round of photos. Looking forward to the rest of the month.

I had lots of fun with the previous one too!
But that's time I really don't have right now! But I'll sure enjoy your second round. :-)

LOL yes. Things are clearing out slowly. Today was my little departure party at work. That's one down. And tomorrow I'm going away for the day, to try and lobby for that future job I might get after Madison.
Got my BB story and also my current scientific paper so that I can write on the train (one or the other depending on my mood)

I agree with Joy about friendship. I have reconnected with family and friends that I lost touch with over the years. Facebook helps span the distance especially over 3000 miles.

My sister has 4 friends she's known for over 50 years. She lost touch with one of them and managed to reconnect. When she was at her 40th high school reunion, they took pictures of the 5 of them.

The picture and the story compliment each other beautifully.

This is breathtaking.

And phallic.

But I digress. *g*

Love the story behind the photo as well!

Home. <3

Yeah, we're going to have to end up on the ocean again here after a bit. We'll see if that can be in CA; the Oregon coast has been home over and over again. I just wish there were little cities over there rather than small towns. I do and I don't.

Thank you for sharing that. The friends do sound like lovely people. :-)
