Thirty Day Photo Meme - Day 1
As promised, I'm starting another round of the Thirty-Day Photo Meme. I've been missing your feedback and interaction and I hope you enjoy these photos and the commentary enough to let me know.
Day 1 - A Photo With Water In It

Canon Beach, Oregon
February, 2003
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
My dear friend, David, is one of the most gregarious people I know and one of the great joys in his life is introducing one set of friends to another set. At the time this picture was taken, I had known David for about a decade and had been a frequent visitor to his home in Seattle. On this particular trip, he took me down to coastal Oregon to introduce me to two of his oldest friends, Connie and Mike, who he’d known for close to forty years. Despite our age difference, he thought we’d have a lot in common.
He was right. Mike was a linguistic anthropologist and his wife, Connie, was an artist who loved to feed people. The weekend was magical. And of course, the setting didn’t hurt. David got me up a little after dawn for a walk along the beach, which was when I took this photograph.

My friendship with David had gone through a rough patch - more because we'd just stopped communicating. Going through these photos made me sad about that, so I reached out to him and we're back on track. Sometimes we lose friends simply because of neglect. I didn't want to let that happen.

I got into fandom with my best friend from college (after college) and, in the midst of a major depressive episode, I seriously dropped the ball on some things in a group we were both a part of, planning a big event. I haven't talked to her since. This was in 2000 so it seems ridiculous to contact her now, but I really do miss her.

(Okay, I know that sounds pathetic, but what do you want with academics).

Having lived within easy reach of a beach until I was 40, it's sometimes tough to be landlocked now.

You need to come visit. I live about 15 miles from some of the best beaches in the world.
Hugs the little bear.

I am so glad you have chosen to do another round of photos. Looking forward to the rest of the month.

Not sure I see a fish, but it's like playing games with the shapes of clouds, it's what's in your mind's eye.

Wow doing another round, that's dedication.

I had so much fun with the last round, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that I'd do another.
And I have about a hundred crowdsourced prompts for another meme I'll tackle in the fall.

But that's time I really don't have right now! But I'll sure enjoy your second round. :-)

I actually have all the posts queued up, so I don't have to think/remember to post them. It's all set into motion - every morning at 9 am, a new picture goes live. Seemed well worth the hour or so it took to set it up.

Got my BB story and also my current scientific paper so that I can write on the train (one or the other depending on my mood)

My sister has 4 friends she's known for over 50 years. She lost touch with one of them and managed to reconnect. When she was at her 40th high school reunion, they took pictures of the 5 of them.
The picture and the story compliment each other beautifully.

I've been thinking about getting in touch with an old college friend, and the comments here are going to give me the courage I need to do so.

And phallic.
But I digress. *g*
Love the story behind the photo as well!

Of course you'd see it that way. Of course.

Yeah, we're going to have to end up on the ocean again here after a bit. We'll see if that can be in CA; the Oregon coast has been home over and over again. I just wish there were little cities over there rather than small towns. I do and I don't.
Thank you for sharing that. The friends do sound like lovely people. :-)

Canon Beach is a lovely, lovely place. Very family friendly, but it is a small town.
My friends are - all of them (including everyone here) - wonderful people.
