Okay, flist...I love you very much and your advice has always been invaluable.  So I have a question.

Working on a fic, which is actually eight separate pieces connected by a gimmick (for lack of a better word).  Each of the sections is substantially more than a ficlet - ranging from 800 to 2000 words.  There's no real overarching theme (unlike "Take a Seat, Mr. Caffrey), and except for the gimmick, each piece can stand alone.

Should I publish it as one long fic (probably about 10k words when all done), or eight separate pieces - say one per day?

What say you?

If you want lots of comments, publish it on a regular schedule, say every Tuesday and Sunday of the week or whatever floats your boat. If you're more interested in in-depth feedback and analysis, not just "Cool" and "Thank you," publish it as a whole.

Or just flip a coin, and learn by going which kind of audience response you engenger and prefer.

I've been caught up on real life stuff. My store is now selling an e-book reader-the nook- or as
we refer to it-the Nookie- and it's my job to teach a bunch on introverted nerds, aka, booksellers how to perpetrate a hard sell.

Sometimes I have to bribe them with candy and gun, but I'm getting the job done.

I tend to be able to read shorter stories. If it's one big one, my personal choice might be to wait longer to read it, because I simply won't have a chunk of time to devote to reading. But that's me.

How gimmicky is the gimmick? Might be something to help you decide.

i'd actually post them all separately unless you think that there's a substantial amount of connection between them--or if you think it'd be more advantageous to understanding your message if the reader saw it all at once. 8D

I'm not helping here because I would go with posting as a whole, but some people do have problems reading a lot of words at once due to time, so perhaps... say in notes at the start that there will be eight pieces working as a whole which will be tagged 'X' and then if people want to read them all at once, they can wait until they are all published.

If you are going to publish separately, I like the idea of posting one per day though so there aren't big gaps.

BTW, I left you a comment on your most recent fic. I just wanted to make sure you got it, and that LJ wasn't playing up re. notification. :)
