White Collar Single Sentence Challenge II is Now Opened

Single Sentence Challenge Promptfest is BACK

Think you can’t write fanfic? Think again, because Sentence!Fest is a fun way to get your feet wet. Basically, the challenge is to tell a complete story using one sentence only.

Sounds easy, but perhaps it is not. How would you tell your story if you only had the space of one sentence? Would you use dialogue? Action? Emotion? Observation? Would it be haunting? Poetic? Sexy? Tragic?

The rules are simple: Tell a story using one sentence. It can be as long as you want it to be, but it must make sense (imaginary points will be deducted). It can be as short as you want it to be, but make those words count. Tell a story that will provoke the imagination of your readers – one they will demand to have the beginning, middle and end of from you – that is the ultimate goal. Here is an example:

Neal and Peter have the sex.

Here is a better one:

When Peter finally opened his eyes, it was to see his lover's rapt face as Neal rode him, the rising sun forming a perfect golden halo around his dark head; his savior, his angel.

Capice?

This particular ‘fest will operate like any other. Take a prompt, fill a prompt, leave a prompt. There are no limits – multiple folks can fill any and all prompts. Use them to craft a narrative if you like, but each entry must convey an entire scene within that narrative. All subject matter is fair game, so RPF/RPS is allowed. This fest is unlocked and opened to everyone who would like to write.

Cuz Sentencefest can be a little overwhelming, it will be co-moderated by myself, [livejournal.com profile] coffeethyme4me and [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 .

Prompts will be found in the first comments below - let the games begin.

Keller -- Point Blank

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
More Reverse World! Continued from Neal -- Hurt (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6818088#t6818088)

He'd had Neal right where he needed him; helpless and bleeding, and he was going to end it with a bullet to the head, but that bastard Burke, who was never around when they wanted to catch him, had shown up and distracted him -- and then for some reason, had rescued Caffrey -- so now he was going to have to try to clean up two messes instead of just one: He would kill Neal, and frame Burke for the murder, and that should be enough to cover his tracks until he could get the hell out of this city.

Keller is a nasty piece of work in any setting.

Reverse World Series: Help, Five Sentences

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Continued from the Reverse World Series: Keller -- Point Blank (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6820904#t6820904)

I. "You're lucky I showed up when I did," Peter said as he helped Neal take a few sips of water; when Neal was done, he eased him back onto the bed and brushed a hand over Neal's forehead to check for a fever.

II. "Thanks for the help, but I need to get to a hospital and check in with my team," Neal said, and tried to sit up, but Peter laid a hand on his shoulder and easily held him down.

III. "It's already been six hours since I first stumbled onto you and Keller," Peter explained, his voice calm but firm, "By now he could have gone back to your people and told them anything, and you're not in the best shape right now, so you may as well rest."

IV. Neal was appalled at how much time had passed, but he didn't feel strong enough to sit up just yet, and that worried him too -- he'd been shot, how bad was the damage?

V. "I know someone who knows someone; she patched you up pretty good," Peter explained, and released Neal when he was sure the other man wouldn't sit up yet, "I can't let you go just yet without risk of exposing my people, so you'll have to stay here with us until we can get a game plan together...just rest for now, you're safe here."

Peter, Neal -- By the book

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Very AU.

I. “You might be my last chance, Agent Burke,” says Caffrey, though he holds his head high; Peter surveys him critically before he starts skimming through his file again – and really, it’s quite a read; Peter doesn’t think he has ever seen anything like this in his life.

II. Looking at one of the many incidents, he frowns: “You broke into a suspect’s house”, to which Caffrey replies: “And it probably saved the girl’s life when they wouldn’t give me a warrant based on a shady hearsay“ – and he is so obviously unashamed and unconcerned that Peter wonders how Caffrey could have lasted three years before his superiors started threatening him with dismissal.

III. In fact, Peter is already impressed by Caffrey’s dignity and quiet resolution, not to mention by his alleged abilities – the man has three diplomas, an exceptionally high closure rate and even a bit of a reputation within the Bureau; but he still needs some guarantee that Caffrey won’t screw up on his first week if he agrees to this and takes him on his team.

IV. Then Caffrey gives him a small, but honest smile, and says: “I really love my job, Agent Burke” - and after a few second, Peter realizes that this is actually Caffrey’s way of telling him he will do things by the book from now on, or that he promises to at least try; so Peter says goodbye and takes time to think about it; he vaguely mentions it to Jones and Hughes – at home, he deeply discusses it with Elizabeth – finally, he makes the decision, and a few days later, Agent Caffrey is already friends with the whole division, though it takes almost six weeks before Peter invites him to his home for a dinner.

V. “You know, sometimes I almost wish I was one of them,” says Neal to Peter ruefully a few months later and makes a vague motion to their CI; and though Peter knows how much it sometimes eats at Neal when he can’t work outside the boundaries, he still raises his eyebrows; “You mean you’d rather be a criminal and wear a tracking anklet?” – and Neal flashes him a huge, brilliant smile and tells him that he wouldn’t exchange his current life for anything in the world.

Wow, more great AU story.

Glass slipper

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Cinderella aka El was a bright girl and soon figured out that Prince Peter Charming had a foot fetish, but since he gave a lot of good balls, she was happy with her lot....later the dashing thief dropped his golden anklet sending Peter on another nation wide search and all three of them lived happily ever after, working the brave little cobbler nearly to death making increasingly beautiful fetish wear shoes.

Heeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flying monkeys

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
As Peter shielded Neal in his arms, promising the flying monkeys would not get him; Moz examined the dirty cell in which their friend had been kept by a crazed fan and soon said, "Ergot...Jessie Bell baked her own rye bread and some of the kernels were moldy. It causes hallucinations."

Wand

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
There was the time when Peter's cock became a magic wand, granting wishes whenever it was erect...but that was another story to come.

Um, yes. :D :D :D :D

Golden Goose

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Moz crumpled and wept when he saw the delicious roast goose El had cooked...they would never get up the magic bean tree again to find another golden gooose.

Diana - cherry red

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Diana always said it was the death of her favorite bodyguard that drove her to a career in law enforcement, but the story she could never tell least she weep a thousand years was that of James, her best friend from high school after he was outed and targeted by every bully in the school...she was the one who found him in his corvette, his face cherry red from carbon monoxide, his teddy bear she had given him fallen from his grip...she might never be able to give him justice, but she would avenge wrong doing where she could.

Re: Diana - cherry red

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch.
Sad and unfortunately quite believable. The only thing as bad as bullies are the people who could do something against them and instead look the other way. I can absolutely see this to be the thing that drives Diana in her work.
Good story.

Sara/Neal -- Castle, Glow, Cinderella, Stroke of midnight, Gingerbread, Magic

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Years ago, Neal used to take her to his dream castle, and it was spectacular and beautiful and glowing; but just like Cinderella, Sara realized that she needed to leave before the stroke of midnight and before everything changed; now, as they sit in their kitchen and Neal’s preparing the dough for gingerbreads while they discuss whether or not should they take the Burke’s on their offer and spend the Christmas Eve together, Sara thinks that this is the true magic – and that in the end, they got their happy ending after all.

Good job in getting those all in your sentence! :-D

Kramer -- Fight

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Reverse World continued: Reverse World -- Help (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6821928#t6821928)

Kramer regarded the young FBI agent sleeping on Peter's bed and frowned because his wayward protege had found another stray: an FBI agent (and not just any agent; the one who'd been hunting their little group for years!), and he braced himself for yet another argument with Peter -- they were supposed to be mentor/protege, father/son, partners, even, but Peter's good heart was getting more and more in the way of the bottom line, and that wasn't good for business, so Kramer knew he might have to take matters into his own hands soon enough, and part ways with his most promising student.

Peter's good heart is the same in any universe.

Simon - Just the right spot

Stuffed Full to Bursting

[identity profile] damietta.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mozzie dried the last dish and helped Mrs. Suit put them all away then brought the coffee out to the living room where Peter, Neal, Clinton, Diana and Christie were in various stages of drowszy stuffed full to bursting with Thanksgiving dinner, and it dawned on Moz that just perhaps his lost family was right here before his eyes.

Sweet and fulfilling.

Ruby Slippers

[identity profile] damietta.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Neal finished unpacking from his unplanned return to prison and as he was stuffing his carryon bag into the depths of June's walk-in closet he noticed the faded ruby red house slippers (Byron's no doubt) lined with fleece in the back of the shelf and as Neal slipped them on he couldn't resist clicking them together and whispering "there's no place like home".

Re: Ruby Slippers

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nice! The ruby slippers in a realistic context.

Gingerbread

[identity profile] damietta.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Neal immediately smelled the gingerbread as he slipped into June's home in the middle of the night and he came into the kitchen to see June sitting at the large table with a sniffer of brandy and a slice of the warm treat; he sat down as June smiled and whispered "welcome home, I admit I was worried".

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
This is perfect :) I love your June.

Mice

[identity profile] damietta.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Neal and Mozzie were in the catacombs of the Getty replacing the real Rembrandt with Neal's perfect forgery when the herd of mice appeared out of no where setting off the motion alarm in the next room; the two con men froze as the guards appeared cursing and spraying the mice giving Neal and Moz an idea of how to beat motion alarms in several other museums.

From the merest wee timid creatures comes the great plans.

[identity profile] damietta.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Agent Peter Burke stared in horror along with the rest of the audience as two of the flying monkeys lifted the priceless jewels from heiress Mrs. Ann Lampton during a fly by; and, as he jumped out of his seat and rushed out the front door of the theatre he was a moment too late as the two monkeys jumped into a white van and was another moment too late when he opened the van to see monkey clothes and a man hole cover.

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Chortles madly! The old flying monkey gambit...works everytime.

As you were

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Peter looked at the unknown number and then picked up the phone; for a while there was no sound and he was about to hang up, when he finally heard the hesitant words, spoken in a quiet soft voice he hadn’t heard for months: “Peter… is there… is there ANY way that I could possibly come back?”

Gingerbread

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Waking, Neal felt warm...he smelled great though, spicy, sweet, and freshly baked... as soon as he scrambled out of bed, he heard Moz and Peter arguing...when he walked into the living room, they both turned to Neal, yelling "He's mine!" and "I had him first" then they pounced each tearing off and gobbling an arm before Satchmo ran off with the rest of him.

Faithful John

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Like Faithful John, Neal saved El and Peter three times, but on the third occassion, Peter believed that Neal betrayed him and allowed him to be traded to Keller...when Peter learned the truth, his heart was broken, but it was too late...Keller sent him pictures of Neal's broken body and there was no sacrifice to make to save him.

Poppies

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Neal stopped to buy two red poppies from the old man, over paying ten times the nominal request...Peter's smile turned shaky when Neal leaned close to tuck one of the flowers in Peter's lapel and his senses swam with Neal's sweet spicy scent and Peter could not wait to get Neal home...not one more moment.

Stroke of midnight

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
From midnight the night of Peter's birthday, Peter explored and tasted Neal, held him down with powerful hands while he took Neal to the edge and would not let him have that final moment...the feather touch it would have taken to come...until at the stroke of midnight, Peter moved faster and faster until they both uttered wordless cries as they came.

Secret

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Moz's secret was safe for another year as he stepped out of the machine that kept his true self from showing...the reason Moz never ate eggs and was afraid of heights...Moz was a bad egg and his real name was Humpty Dumpty.

Neal - Enchantment, Power, Wand, Wards, Tower, for surreal_44

[personal profile] greyminerva 2011-11-23 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it ached, the enchantment that bound him and hos power to Peter, and sometimes it felt like a relief - no more temptation, no more giving in to his petty desires and wanton appetites; he craved his wand and his powers back, but the big secret, the one he didn't even tell Mozzie, was that he DIDN'T want the wards broken - he wanted to stay right here in Peter's tower, forever and ever.
