White Collar Single Sentence Challenge II is Now Opened

Single Sentence Challenge Promptfest is BACK

Think you can’t write fanfic? Think again, because Sentence!Fest is a fun way to get your feet wet. Basically, the challenge is to tell a complete story using one sentence only.

Sounds easy, but perhaps it is not. How would you tell your story if you only had the space of one sentence? Would you use dialogue? Action? Emotion? Observation? Would it be haunting? Poetic? Sexy? Tragic?

The rules are simple: Tell a story using one sentence. It can be as long as you want it to be, but it must make sense (imaginary points will be deducted). It can be as short as you want it to be, but make those words count. Tell a story that will provoke the imagination of your readers – one they will demand to have the beginning, middle and end of from you – that is the ultimate goal. Here is an example:

Neal and Peter have the sex.

Here is a better one:

When Peter finally opened his eyes, it was to see his lover's rapt face as Neal rode him, the rising sun forming a perfect golden halo around his dark head; his savior, his angel.

Capice?

This particular ‘fest will operate like any other. Take a prompt, fill a prompt, leave a prompt. There are no limits – multiple folks can fill any and all prompts. Use them to craft a narrative if you like, but each entry must convey an entire scene within that narrative. All subject matter is fair game, so RPF/RPS is allowed. This fest is unlocked and opened to everyone who would like to write.

Cuz Sentencefest can be a little overwhelming, it will be co-moderated by myself, [livejournal.com profile] coffeethyme4me and [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 .

Prompts will be found in the first comments below - let the games begin.

El - salvage, for myself. ;)

[personal profile] greyminerva 2011-11-20 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I. When Keller is dead, El is left as the sole keeper of Neal's past - all the dirty and not so dirty secrets Keller knew from their time together, or had dug up just because that's the kind of obsessive nutcase he was - and she's determined to prove a better keeper than Keller ever was; she understands so much, now, sees how much of "Neal" there is to salvage, and she keeps his secrets close, not even sharing them with Peter - because they're not hers to share.

II. In the back of her mind, she keeps thinking of Neal as theirs to "salvage", because she sometimes sees him as a sleek, elegant sailing boat adrift on the ocean, lost and abandoned, just waiting for some enterprising person to come along and put on a salvage crew of two.

III. Even she is a bit stumped for a while, almost seeing the situation as hopeless - but El has never been one to lie down and give up, and now that Keller's done and gone, she sets to work salvaging the relationship between Peter and Neal; because while Neal has been an idiot, and Peter a bit of a bastard, there's still so much left to fight for.

I love this set up. El is a fixer and I hope she suceeds.

For Greyminerva: Elizabeth -- Cinderella

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth's mother was fond of fairy tales, and she'd had high hopes that a prince (well, maybe not a real prince, but one could always hope) would sweep her beautiful daughter off her feet, and give her everything she ever wanted -- instead, Elizabeth ended up with Peter Burke, and it took a while to understand that while he may not have the graces of a prince (looks, charm, money), he had the heart of a fairy tale hero.

Re: For Greyminerva: Elizabeth -- Cinderella

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter is more a king than a prince. A kingdom would be lucky to have him other than the manadatory baseball games.

Red, red wine

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The day of the kidnapping, Moz dreamed he was in Neal's living room, drinking the finest vintage, but when he turned to thank his friend; he saw the red, red wine was tapped from Neal's bleeding heart.

Lollipop

El knew everything about her husbands except why once a year Peter always gave Neal a lime lollipop and a kiss.

Early in the morning

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Early in the morning, Satchmo noticed the open door and decided if Neal-Pet could sleep in the bed with Momma El and Papa Peter so could he; it must have been all right since Neal-Pet snuggled his feet into Satchmo's warmth and his face into Peter's neck.

Nevermore

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The big black raven landed on the fence, preened its glossy feathers and prepared to utter his infamous 'nevermore' to doom El...Satchmo may have not been the leanest Labrador, but he could still leap high enough to grab most of the bird's tail feathers and drive dire fate in raven form away to roost at some dogless, godless household.

Yay Satchmo, guardian of the Burkes and everyone who passes through their home. <3

On the fringes

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Moz stood on the fringes at the foster kid's Christmas party until El, dressed as the sugar plum fairy, offered her lacy gloved hand and drew him out on the floor, with a whisper of "Le Chevalier Mal Fet, my Lancelot," and Moz became the center of the world, no treasure greater than his queen.

Peter, Neal - Heal

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
„We have each other’s back,“ says Peter, and Neal replies: “I know” – and then they smile at each other, because finally, after months of uncertainty and all the painful attempts to rebuild and repair, it feels like the absolute truth again.

Peter/Elizabeth/Neal -- Fringes

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It was not Neal, the new addition to their relationship, who seemed to be on the fringes, or Elizabeth, whom others maybe thought should have felt displaced by Neal's entrance, but rather it was Peter who needed the most reassurance that he did belong with them, and whenever (rarely, but not rarely enough) the uncertainty shadowed his eyes, Elizabeth and Neal loved on him until the darkness was dispelled and he felt part of them once again.

Peter doesn't look in the mirror enough, that's for sure nor does he realize what a wonderful man he can be.

(Don't really know where this came from...)

As Peter cries in relief when he finally holds El back in his arms, as they all wonder how El managed to escape and where Keller disappeared, as Peter keeps giving Neal strange glances, a mixture of anger, curiosity and gratitude, Neal’s heart feels heavy, but he still maintains his silence; thus, Peter never discovers what exactly happened to the treasure, and he doesn’t know that Keller’s body is now hopefully eaten by sharks near one particular tropical island, and he must never find out how far Neal and later Mozzie went to “fix” the disaster caused by their actions; honesty is a double-edge sword, and Neal knows better that to cut his own hands with it; still, sometimes he wishes he could tell someone the truth, if only to get the nightmares to leave his dreams.

Very nice! Powerful. Poor Neal.

Neal Caffrey -- Thorns

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Reverse world!

Special Agent Neal Caffrey was good at his job, but there were two thorns in his side: Elizabeth Patterson, a delicate beauty who was also a brilliant fence and art thief, and Peter Burke, a math whiz who'd embezzled millions from companies -- they were pains in his ass, but tonight he was grateful for them as they sheltered him and tended the gunshot wound in his leg while Keller, his dirty partner, tried to find and kill him.

Snow Queen

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
She looked like Kate, but her ankle length hair was silver, incandescent silver, so bright that you had to shield your eyes, her skin was nacreous and shone like a pearl, her eyes were dark as the night sky in mid winter; when Neal ran to kiss her, he froze and shattered, a puzzle of himself still reaching for the snow queen.

Peter -- In the Red

[identity profile] surreal-44.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Part of the Reverse World Series, first introduced here: Neal -- Thorns (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6808872#t6808872)

He'd never wanted to be a criminal, but after his father lost his job and his mother got sick, twenty-year old Peter decided he had to find a way to get money for his parents, and that's when he started writing papers for his classmates -- and discovered a talent for skimming money off the school bookies by rearranging numbers.

Part of the Reverse World Series. Connected to this: Peter -- In the Red (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6813736#t6813736)

Elizabeth could have gotten a job, maybe in a gallery, or as an event planner (she did love parties, after all), but really, she enjoyed stealing because it was fun.

Alex -- Bad Judgment

Continued from this post, which is the start of the Reverse World Series: Neal -- Thorns (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6808872#t6808872)

I. Alex had had a bad feeling about Keller ever since she'd joined the white collar unit three months ago, and she hadn't trusted how closely he'd been working with their corporate liaison, Vincent Adler, but she had kept her mouth shut because she was the rookie agent, and accusations had to be backed up with evidence, not just a gut feeling.

II. Her intuition seemed to be corroborated when she caught Keller in Neal's office, pawing through some files; he'd smiled his oily smile at her and showed her a folder on supposed mortgage frauds, but she'd seen the flash of writing on it, and she knew it had to do with Adler -- she went to go talk to Caffrey, and at least drop a hint to let him know something might be up, but she couldn't find him anywhere...and then she couldn't find Keller, and her heart sank like a stone.

It's getting to look like a story and I will be glad to see the sentences grow and grow.

Fairy godmother

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Peter had no fairy godmother and his father didn't believe in college so in reality the closest Peter came to being on the team was mopping the floors as part of his work study; oh, he loved baseball, but he never really was allowed to play, not even as a kid...team sports cost money and his dad was always saving for that rainy day...Peter went to a baseball game the day his father was buried even though it was raining...fuck Dad and his rainy day.

Spindle

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
When Moz errr Rumpelstiltskin set Princess El to spin gold out of straw, Prince Charming, hereby known as Neal, wasn't sure how to accomplish that so he broke into Moz's treasure house and with the help of King Peter of the strong back, the big cock, and the mouth that could suck your brains out through your balls, moved all his gold to the dungeon where Princess El languished.

Neal -- Nervous

Continued from the Reverse World Series: Alex -- Bad Judgment (http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6814760#t6814760)

He should have been nervous to be in the hands of the man he'd been pursuing for over two years now, but Neal felt nothing but gratitude and an over-whelming sense of exhaustion as the pain kicked in and the adrenaline ran out; before he knew it, he was sinking into sleep, while Elizabeth talked on the phone with someone named Diana, and Peter told him to hang on, help was coming...

Re: Neal -- Nervous

Great stuff. I bet Diana is a professional hit person.

Red cloak

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Neal loved his red cloak and wore it to hoodwink the simple villagers, but when he went to Moz's house deep in the woods, the wicked wolf, Keller, set upon him and went into the 'better to eat you up, my dear' routine...Neal had been eaten by better so he whipped out Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater's shiny gun and blew a big hole in the big bad wolf's head...everyone else lived happily ever after.

I. He still hurt when he woke, but it was distant, as if it were held back by painkillers, but the problem was, he was certain he wasn't in a hospital, so that meant...he opened his eyes and stared up at an unfamiliar ceiling, realized he was in an unfamiliar bed, but there was unfortunately a very familiar face leaning over him, and Neal sighed at Peter, "So it wasn't a dream that my partner just tried to kill me?"

Peter Fairy

Peter Burr was a reliable enough fairy, but his tights never fit and he wore dandelions in winter and snowflakes in summer...he gave innocent young lovers lectures on safe sex instead of enchanting them into falling in love with the nearest ass and he once spanked Robin Good Fellow until the poor fairy wailed for more.
