White Collar Single Sentence Challenge II is Now Opened

Single Sentence Challenge Promptfest is BACK

Think you can’t write fanfic? Think again, because Sentence!Fest is a fun way to get your feet wet. Basically, the challenge is to tell a complete story using one sentence only.

Sounds easy, but perhaps it is not. How would you tell your story if you only had the space of one sentence? Would you use dialogue? Action? Emotion? Observation? Would it be haunting? Poetic? Sexy? Tragic?

The rules are simple: Tell a story using one sentence. It can be as long as you want it to be, but it must make sense (imaginary points will be deducted). It can be as short as you want it to be, but make those words count. Tell a story that will provoke the imagination of your readers – one they will demand to have the beginning, middle and end of from you – that is the ultimate goal. Here is an example:

Neal and Peter have the sex.

Here is a better one:

When Peter finally opened his eyes, it was to see his lover's rapt face as Neal rode him, the rising sun forming a perfect golden halo around his dark head; his savior, his angel.

Capice?

This particular ‘fest will operate like any other. Take a prompt, fill a prompt, leave a prompt. There are no limits – multiple folks can fill any and all prompts. Use them to craft a narrative if you like, but each entry must convey an entire scene within that narrative. All subject matter is fair game, so RPF/RPS is allowed. This fest is unlocked and opened to everyone who would like to write.

Cuz Sentencefest can be a little overwhelming, it will be co-moderated by myself, [livejournal.com profile] coffeethyme4me and [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 .

Prompts will be found in the first comments below - let the games begin.

Burke's Seven

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Baby number six started screaming right as baby number seven finally burped...Peter whimpered along with Chelsea...the one with Neal's blue eyes and yelled, "Neal, where are those diapers?" ... El's late blooming biological clock and those fertillity drugs created this insanity.

LOL!

Neal – countdown

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
At first, Neal had been wildly excited about the tracker coming off and his freedom until he realized that the ties to Peter, to El and, in a different way, to Jones, Diana, Hughes, would bind him long after the tracker was gone...then his heart grew light and he decided that those were not restraints, but wings on which to fly.

Neal -- Good till it's gone

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Mozzie used to tell him that his deal with the FBI was just another form of prison, and maybe it was; but as Neal watches the sea shore on their island, the island he can’t really leave or he risks getting caught and being extradited and sent to the maximum security for life, he is utterly miserable; because this cage is much, much worse, and being bored to tears and fed up with sand and terribly lonely despite all the people there, he wishes he could go back to the anklet, back to the bureau, back to Diana, Jones, June, El, Sara and Peter - and he knows that path is forever lost and that he has no one to blame but himself.

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
A bird in a gilded cage. I don't think Moz would be happy there either. It's a dream castle not one in which to build a life.

Neal - Long con

[personal profile] greyminerva 2011-11-18 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
After six months of careful planning, secret meetings, codes and passwords, hidden accounts and lots and lots of legwork, he could finally just sit back and watch Peter and El enjoy the perfect anniversary surprise - and as he accepted their ecstatic gratitude (mostly in the form of kisses; they were still in public) he reflected that this was the closest he'd come to a long con in years, and the payoff was much greater than anything he'd managed in the past.

Neal/Peter - Kissing, Threads

[personal profile] greyminerva 2011-11-18 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(Continuation of this: http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6655016#t6655016 )

Neal notes that Peter rarely kisses him anymore, at least not kisses for the sake of kissing; no, Peter will drink down the sound of his whimpers and cries, or claim his mouth in aggressive nips and bites, but the long, lingering kisses of Before are gone - and Neal tries not to miss them too much as he struggles to accept and adapt and weave the raveling threads of what they once had together back into something resembling a life.

More bitter than sweet by far.

Peter, Neal -- Point blank

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
With his arm loosely laid around El’s shoulders, Peter is once more furious at Neal for almost making him loose this; then El smiles at him, and most of Peter’s anger fades away, because it’s thanks to Neal that he got this all back and he knows with absolute conviction that despite everything, he will eventually forgive him; not because of Neal’s determination in finding Mozzie, not because – when that failed – he made a deal with Keller that could have cost him his life, not because of all the brave and loyal and utterly stupid things that Neal has done to get El back; but because it was Neal who talked him out of the unspeakable, because it was him who took the gun out of Peter’s hand so that he didn’t shoot an unarmed man, because it is thanks to Neal that it's now Keller and not Peter rotting for life in maximum security and because despite his crimes, Neal is first and foremost Peter’s friend.

Re: Peter, Neal -- Point blank

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be a great way to resolve the cliffhanger.

Power Play

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
They were lovers and were sometimes tender, but they were men and sometimes sex became a power play...her husband holding Neal down, teasing him until El showed her hand, slapping Peter's well muscled ass aside and taking Neal into herself until he cried like an eagle from joy and pleasure.

Re: Power Play

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice... erotic... sexy :)

Peter – Shadows

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter was always looking at Neal, seeing his beauty, worrying about the impulses and dichotomy beneath, and he sees in the shadows that flicker across Neal's face, everything he loved and everything he hated about the man.

Peter - cloying

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter knew this smell, cloyingly sweet over the smell of decay and as they go to view the body, he caught Neal by the waist, supporting him, but the small body on view was not Moz and Neal unabashedly weeps in relief...although Peter should feel diffently, he hopes the little guy will remain elusive, forever the one that got away.

Re: Peter - cloying

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice.
I like the subtle hints on the repaired bromance and I'm glad it wasn't Mozzie as well.

For Ursula4x: Peter/Neal/El - - Tiger by the tail

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Neal can’t even begin to describe the gratitude he feels for Peter’s mercy that – despite the whole treasure fiasco – kept him out of prison; and he knows he should now thread extremely carefully, but Neal has never been good with boundaries; he tries though, for twenty three days and seventeen hours he keeps his head down, does his cases and tiptoes around Peter and El – then one day, something breaks in him and he decides to grab the tiger by the tail and find out where he stands – he comes to the Burkes' home and right after Peter finally lets him in, Neal connects their lips in a tender kiss, and waits – when there are no slaps or yells, he dares to hope – then Peter thrusts him against the wall, and the sex that follows is rough, greedy, controlling and perfect, and after Peter reduces Neal to a crying mess of pain and pleasure, when Neal’s done begging for forgiveness and begging for more, Peter wipes away his tears, helps him pick up the torn pieces of Neal’s clothes and gives his ass a light smack to go and fix things with El, because their house and bed no longer feel complete without Neal in there.

Purrs with a big tiger purr of contentment.

Peter, Neal -- Homecoming

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
„I’ll find out who did this, don’t worry,” promises Peter in a low voice even as he gently locks the cuffs around Neal’s wrists; Neal gives him a tired smile and says: “Please, just keep an eye on Sara and the kids for me, okay?” – and almost wishes he was still wearing that damned anklet so that he had an alibi; he can barely hide his irritation that they once again think he would risk his whole life here over a stupid diamond heist; he also trusts that like in the past, Peter will clear his name and bring him home again.

In the Red

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
When El's business was still in the red, she and Peter frequently dined on leftover banquet food, odd hodgepodges of sliced meat, gourmet treats, and the ever present vegetables...Peter was a meat and potato kind of guy, but he never complained...what sustained him was El and her beauty fed his soul.

Awwwwwwww. \o/ Peter! He's romantic, in his own way. -smushes him-

The Dentist of Detroit

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
The dentist in Detroit who accepted state medical coupons was a brute by the name of Doctor Payne...once when Moz wouldn't open his mouth, Doctor Payne's nurse held him down while the dentist pried it open, by becoming the Dentist of Detroit, Moz finally escaped the nightmares he had about that miserable office where he suffered so much discomfort.

Fairy

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Caffrey's a fairy," Ruiz drooled as he grabbed at Diana's arm....although Diana had an aha moment at this allegation, it offended her...until she saw Neal flitting by outside the fifth floor window, gossamer wings, pointy ears, designer leaf suit, sewn together with the finest cobwebs... she steadied Ruiz and said, "I think we better have a drink, a lot of drinks and forget what we didn't see."

Neal -- Dare, Unfinished business

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
He hears the steps and raises his head from his hands; although his eyes are blind with tears, he still somehow recognizes the person in front of him; it’s not Peter, so he dares to ask: “Diana, please, before I go back, could I… could I at least go to the funeral tomorrow?”

Prompts:
Plausible deniability
Happily ever after
Underground

Sniffles.

Neal, Peter -- Player

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
“Peter, I was never much of a basketball player,” says Neal carefully, but Peter keeps smiling and bouncing like a little kid: “Come on, Neal, look at the weather outside – you’re gonna love it!” – and so Neal relents and borrows some of Peter’s clothes; they play two on two against some of Peter’s old friends, and as they’re outside relaxing and teasing and generally having fun, Neal can’t remember why in the world did he ever wanted to run.

Re: Neal, Peter -- Player

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a nice warm story for a cold day.

Happily ever after

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
With Kate, Neal dreamed of happily ever after...with Sara, he never really imagined much beyond the next night...with Peter and El, there was no dream castle, but a real relationship with arguments, days when El had a red nose or Peter didn't feel like sex, but it was real and good and so perfectly imperfect.

Re: Happily ever after

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice :)

Perfect exchange

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Neal wanted to give them diamonds and trips to the moon, but he learned to make ceramics and worked until he had a set of lovely serving dishes for El and hunted thrift stores until he completed a baseball card collection for Peter...and he saw that both glowed, knowing he had used no stolen coin to steal their hearts.

Underground

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Right after he fled Detroit, Moz lived on a commune full of aging hippies outside of New York....he never quite got the idea of not needing money, but he learned the rhetoric and sometimes in his heart, he knew that the gentle eccentrics had loved him fully and cherished every difference...the treasure he sacrificed for El was not the first one he had thrown away.

Diana, Jones -- You're sick

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
When Jones was still a rookie and Diana was the probie, they kept an uneasy truce; both wanted to be the go to person for Peter and their styles were vastly different...Diana challenged Peter and Jones concentrated his talents on steadfastly being there for all the tasks Peter preferred not to do, but the day Jones came in with a raging fever, Diana was the one to take him to the emergency room, telling him, "You're sick and Peter can make his own damn coffee today."

Deadline

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, honey, look...I didn't know there was a zombie walk today," El said, laughing and holding Peter's arm, but Neal smoothly took the gun from Peter's holster and shot the first hungry creatures who staggered their way...Moz was right, it was foolish to make trivial a menance that was no laughing matter.

Neal & Elizabeth - Capable, Comfort Food

[identity profile] doctor-fangeek.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sequel to http://elrhiarhodan.livejournal.com/218920.html?thread=6775080#t6775080

“I know you’re more than capable of looking after yourself,” Elizabeth had said when she’d shown up at the hospital the next morning when Neal was released, and while he appreciated the sentiment he was also tired enough – and sore enough – to go along with her suggestion that he come home with her anyway, and when she made him grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch and then installed him on the sofa and brought him an extra pillow to prop up his leg, he had to admit to himself that sometimes it was okay to let someone else look after him for a little while.

Elizabeth - balance, Rubic cube, for Sheenianni

[personal profile] greyminerva 2011-11-20 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Keller loved to talk, and El got a much better insight into his obsession with Neal than she really wanted to, and a lot more insight into Neal's past than she'd ever hoped - or feared - and when she came home, she spent a lot of time with Neal, trying to help him balance all the darkness of his past with the bright future he could have (with them); she couldn't help seeing him as a complicated Rubic's cube, and if she could just help him figure out how to untwist himself, it would all fall into place.

Neal -- Stranger in a strange land

[identity profile] sheenianni.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything about this is humiliating and restrictive and suffocating and wrong – the clothes, the miniature room, the collective food and working time, even the freaking colors, because everything is either orange or black or grey – the first night, Neal feels like crying and screaming and banging his head against the bars; then suddenly he realize that no matter where he is, he’s still an artist; he takes a couple deep breaths, does some quick math and draws the first line on the wall, and as he gets up the next morning and plasters a smile on his face, as he makes friends with the guards and inmates and talks to Kate during her weekly visits, that wall is always there in the back of his mind; full of the dashes, the most difficult and beautiful piece he will ever draw, because when it’s finally complete, he will be out, and then he’s never coming back here – never, ever again.

Re: Neal -- Stranger in a strange land

[identity profile] ursula4x.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see the moment where Neal decides to own the situation and turns on that glistening weapon of a smile.
