Six hours, start to finish, including a brief stop for lunch and excluding a longer stop for dinner at the local BBQ joint.

The meetup was fantastic and the best part was being reunited with people I haven't seen for a year, meeting people that I've only met on line. Everything else was gravy.

But this is not a recap. It's just a courtesy to let everyone know I'm back in House Wonderful.

I AM HOME. AND I AM TIRED.

Love you all.

I've been chatting with fandom friends and it just so happens that one of the West Coast peeps will likely be on this side of the continent in early September, and she'd like to get together with other fangirls.

Personally, I think it's been too long between meetups.

The place we were at last November - the Marriott Residence Inn in Fairfax, VA - was lovely. The rates were very reasonable ($79 - $90 a night), the staff MORE than accommodating, there were restaurants within walking distance, and one that had no problem with separate checks for 18 people.

It would be a great place to go back to.

I don't need to spell out the virtues of fandom meetups, do I? The writing, the talking, the writing, the talking. The watching, the fangirling. Drinking and eating and hanging out and having fun.

In comments, let me know if you'd be interested in getting together in early September - probably the first weekend AFTER Labor Day. If we have enough interest, I'll talk to the hotel about a group rate.

Would anyone be interested in a D.C. area meetup to watch The Normal Heart? My darling [livejournal.com profile] sinfulslasher is coming to New York (all the way from Germany), in part, to watch it as it airs (with me) and she's all up for doing this with other fangirls, too.

The meetup in early November was a spectacular success, due in part to the accommodations. The hotel (a Residence Inn) was very easy to deal with, the room rates more than reasonable, and the suites large enough for 3-4 people to comfortably share.

I'm thinking, if enough people are interested, I could contact the hotel about getting a volume discount (probably need ten rooms, minimum, though).

What say you? Do you want to plan another get-together around the airing of The Normal Heart?

Okay folks...here's the place for the writers and the judges to sign up for "White Collar Brackets - the Doing it in DC 2013 Edition".

Please comment as either Writer or Judge and if you're eliminated as a writer and want to be a judge, note that, too.

Also, if you don't want to write or judge but want to be an Admin - you get the fics after the writing period closes and then forward them to the judges - please note that too. ETA - Admins will need to be on-site. Just easier that way.

Hey Peeps!

There are a few people who would like to share a room for a night or more. If you have space and are willing to share, please comment here. If you need a room, please comment here.

It will help, if you are looking to share, to track this post so you know when/if your needs can be met.

Can't believe that the Big DC Meet-up is exactly two weeks from today!

To go over a few details

We are meeting at:
Marriott Residence Inn, Fairfax, VA
12815 Fair Lakes Parkway
Fairfax, Virginia 22033 USA
1-703-266-4900

When I originally posted the meet-up, the rates were between $70 and $80 per night. Good news is that there are still rooms available. The pre-paid rate has gone up a bit, and is now between $74 and $79 per night and the pay on checkout rate is between $89 and $94 per night plus tax.

For those of you on the borderline about coming, or don't think you can swing all four days, you're welcome for a night or two or even just for a day.

For people who are flying or taking the train in and want to arrange for pickups, please comment here.

Actually, everyone's who coming should comment here, just so we have a general idea of who to expect.

What we'll be doing in DC )

Things are really informal - no set agendas or platforms. The idea is to have fun with friends who share a common interest and a deep appreciation for a con man and his pet Fed.

If you've got questions, you can PM me or ask in the comments below.

Don't know about you, but I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's been overwhelming support for the fandom meetup (see this post) for November 1 - 4, 2013 (Friday - Monday), so I've gone ahead and booked my hotel room, and I urge you to do the same.

We'll be staying at the Marriott Residence Inn, Fairfax, VA:

12815 Fair Lakes Parkway
Fairfax, Virginia 22033 USA
1-703-266-4900

They have a pre-paid rate of $74 per night for a studio (queen bed, pull-out couch) (sleeps at least two, possibly four), but if you have AAA, the rate is $76, but no pre-payment required. If you want to reserve a one-bedroom suite with a completely separate living room, the rate is $80 per night.

I know a lot of people want to share rooms, and to make things easier, comment here and I'll put up a room share request post. It'll be up to attendees to make their arrangements and reservations from that.

I'm getting SOOOOOOOO excited. Aren't you?

As we get closer to the date, I'll put up a post for people who need rides from airports and train stations.

One of the greatest joys of fandom is getting together and meeting the people you've only been corresponding with on-line. For the past few years, a bunch of us in the White Collar fandom have been having regular meetups in Chicago, usually just before the second half of the White Collar season starts. For a variety of reasons, we skipped January 2013, but made tentative plans to do something in the fall.

We've done some research, polled some people and figured out that the best place for a bunch of us to get together is the Metro DC area, and we've settled on a weekend - Friday, November 1 through Monday, November 4.

While the actual lodging hasn't been booked yet, it will definitely be a Marriott Residence in in the Fairfax/Falls Church area (there are several). The cost per room, per night, is between $75 and $90 per night (as of today).

We like staying in the Residence Inn because it's easy for people to share (queen beds, plus pull-out couches in the living rooms), and someone (usually me) will take a larger room so everyone can gather without too much crowding. And the wi-fi's free and plentiful.

If there is enough interest (basically more than ten rooms), we'll contact the hotel about getting a group rate. So, let me know if you're definitely in, if you're strongly considering, if you do want to come but would need a roommate.

We're going to go into DC at least one day - museums need to be cased, right? But otherwise, it's going to be a lot writing and squeeing and more writing and more squeeing. And oh, maybe some writing...

ETA: Some more deets, because peeps want to know what they're in for, right? )

ETA, part deux. If you are making the journey by airplane, try to fly into Dulles, not Reagan. Dulles is A LOT closer and a lot easier to get in and out of.

Are you in?
