I can't believe that we're going to be Doing It In D.C. in less than five days!

(runs around like a mad woman, waving her hands in the air)

Anyways, some housekeeping and whatnot...

1 - Arrivals.

Peeps will be mostly arriving on Friday afternoon, although I know that a few have commented about coming in late on Thursday, too. I'm leaving House Wonderful early, will be stopping in James Rebhorn country to pick up a friend and barring hellacious traffic (always a distinct possibility on a Friday), I should be arriving some time mid-to-late afternoon. Probably, hopefully (send up a prayerforme) by three pm.

A few people have asked how we'll know where to gather. That's a very good question. I would like peeps to PM me with their email addresses and real names (you're going to have to share them eventually, right?), so on my arrival, I can send everyone an email with my room number.

2 - Festivities.

A. Writing. In talking with [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild (I'm mentioning her by name, so you know who to blame), she came up with the brilliant idea of having a "brackets" type of writing competition. It works like this:

Over the weekend, those who want to participate will sign up and be randomly assigned brackets (and I promise, they will be random. I'm bringing a hat). You and your bracket challenger will go head-to-head in a writing competition with a theme for the round, and a prompt for the bracket pairing. The number of signups will help determine the number of rounds.

You will have a half hour to write a story.

Your story will be sent to a non-participant administrator, who will strip out your identifying details and send it to the bracket judges. Each bracket will have one judge to read two stories and pick a winner for that bracket/round. So - if there are 6 brackets, there will be 6 judges.

There will be a variety of themes and one will be picked from Neal's hat for each round, used and then discarded.

Themes will include: Love & Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Tropes, Relationships (including Porn), Alternative Universes, Episode Tags (and probably a few others).

Prompts will be Genre Specific and some will be prepared in advance, and some will be contributed before the round begins.

For people who can't make it to the festivities but still want to participate, the way to do that is by signing up to be a judge. The writing will occur at a set time (schedule to be created), and if you are playing along remotely, you'll have to commit to being available at a time certain.

There will be separate sign-up posts for the writers and for the judges. And that post will have more detailed rules.

FWIW, This isn't the only writing we'll do - I'm hoping for a round of round-robins and basic word warring, too.

B. Museums. One of the reasons for picking the DC area is to be able to pretend to case the National Gallery (and other museums). The good news is that the Government is back to pretending it's working on behalf of its citizens and the Smithsonian is open. In case you didn't know, admission to all of the Smithsonian galleries is free. So, even if we don't steal like Neal, it still won't cost us anything to look.

On Friday, we'll decide whether to go on Saturday or Sunday. We'll figure out transportation - via Metro, of course. There's also the Spy Museum, which I don't think is part of the Smithsonian, but some people have expressed an interest.

C. Food and Beverage. Let's operate under the KISS principle and keep it simple, stupid. There's a Wegman's within shouting distance of the hotel and we can sort out pizza and other stuff. Anyone who wants to bring goodies is more than welcome to. All comestibles are appreciated.

3 - Other Things. My four seasons of White Collar DVDs are already in my laptop bag. [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama has promised to bring a DVD player that we can hook up to the hotel room's television.

It looks like we're going to be a lot of people. I had inquired with the hotel about meeting space, but at $300 a day, it didn't reasonable. So, we'll float between rooms (I took a two-room suite just so peeps will have a place to hang without dealing with my dirty laundry) and do our best to keep the noise down and not get kicked out.

Am I missing anything?

If you're coming, please comment below, just so we know to expect you. Don't forget to PM me with your email address, too. And I guess, if you've PM'd me, you don't need to comment, right? You know what, comment anyway.

Tosses her hands in the air like a teenager and says, "whatever".

And the promised Bonus Bomer...

I am digging out from under the piles of ALL OF THE GRADING, and will be there! Hurray!!

I won't be arriving until Friday evening (hopefully 7:30-ish), so if there is a plan for food that involves being not at the hotel (or alternatively if I can pick some stuff up at the Wegman's on my way in), it would be great if someone could let me know. Or I could maybe give you a call when I get close. Whatever works.

You have my email & my name. :-)

I would definitely like to sign up to judge. As I'll be here in Utah hopefully that will make me impartial as I doubt I'll recognize whose writing is whose. You could also use our caffrey hat here and I'll send you photos of what's picked out!!

Consider me signed up for the writing challenge. IDK who the judges will be, but they should be willing to possibly get porn? And should we come up with a judging scheme?

I'm a coming.

My flight lands at 3, the airline gods willing and RC will be picking me and Ivorysilk up around that time.

Assuming all goes well, I expect we'll be at the hotel at 4 - 4:30 ish.

I'm already nervous about this bracket thing. I don't do writing under pressure well.

PM sent!

I've packed some writers' block/game things - the Writers' Block book of prompts and a StoryCubes game and my Tarot cards and anything else I think of between now and then. I also packed my lock picks and training locks. ;)

Is anyone bringing other Matt and/or Tim entertainment? I have Tru Calling Season 1 and Magic Mike on DVD that I just tossed in the suitcase.

I can bring Big Eden and Political Disasters DVDs, and since no one's mentioned it yet, PaleyFest. (Political Disasters is plodding, but Tim and sex and junk-groping and massages...) I can throw in my TableTopics cube as well.

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Hoping to get there between 10 and 11 am on Saturday, depending mostly on traffic.

You already have my name and email, I think, but I'll also PM a cell # in case you want to text room/location info instead.

I thought about coming on Sunday and had planned to hopefully do it. But if you go to the museums on Sunday, I'll probably pass. I wanted to come for the writing and stuff. Can you send me a note either way?

As someone else coming on Sunday, I'm also for writing and the infamous hotel sangria as opposed to DC tourism. In addition to hanging out with all of you fine folks, it's sort of my "chill" day before an eight hour drive home on Monday.

have a "check engine" light thing going on, so to be safe, will be renting car and driving down after hopefully working half a day on Friday (they really begged). If leave by 1PM, and not shopping at Strawberry Sampler ( needlework shop), it's a 4 hour drive, so 5PM ish arrival. Leaving sometime on Monday

Haven't had any airport pick-up requests, so no worries there, Offer still there, have DH, can put to work.

Hey Doc - I'm sure there's delivery available, she says hopefully,

Not a writer, but may ask someone to tackle something I tried to do a while ago.
It's good for a Thanksgiving/Christmas story. It needs a real writer.

Will not bring my leftover Halloween candy

Local mechanic says car only really brakes, which are being fixed Thursday. So no need to rent a car.

Work found someone else, so I can leave in the morning and drive a leisurely pace (and stop wherever I want)

So arriving earlier in afternoon.

First of all, *wails because can't be there*!

Second of all, love the look on Bonus Bomer's (or would that be Bonus Neal's?) face. It's all about "damn Elr stole my hat!" Hee.

You do know that you'll spend the entire weekend in the Smithsonian if you go there, right? *g* The Spy Museum is awesometastic. Just sayin'. :)

I have arrived, mostly in one piece. ;) If there are any other early birds, or people arriving before their check-in time tomorrow, shoot me a PM—in the latter case, you can totally hang out in my room, and in the former, we can hang out.

I was supposed to leave on work travel last night, but there were issues... the upside is that now I'm in town this weekend and will get to hang out with you guys!! Woohoo! Not sure about schedule, but will probably arrive Fri evening, leave Sunday evening? Soooo looking forward to it :-)

Hey! Assuming that tomorrow is still on for a day of writing and fun (as opposed to going into DC, which I don't know if you've done or not), I would appreciate a PM with a room number so I have a direction to go to find people. I'm really excited to see everyone! :D
