The Summer is Over...Let's Ramble

For years, I've been saying that Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day are each separated by two weeks - that's how quickly time is flying by.
At least I have the High Holy Days to look forward to - not because I'm spending the time in temple - just because I can take the time off. My company's been so busy that all vacations (even just the random day here and there) have been cancelled for August AND September. The exception being, of course, religious holidays. For the record, I always have taken the first day of Rosh Hashona off, but never the second day.
Anyways, the time will be well spent. I will, hopefully, finish the Big Bang, which is now just shy of 40k, and may end up closer to 50k. I keep adding words, but the story never seems to come any closer to completion. My posting date is September 22, so in theory, I have plenty of time. But like I said above, time is flying by way too quickly.
On the subject of time, I've become sort of obsessed with the time it takes me to commute to and from work. My car has a nifty trip timer and I can't help but keep track of the lengeth of my journey. If there's one downside to House Wonderful, it's how far it is from any of the major highways. The condo I sold last year was a mere half-mile from the Expressway and my commute (absent an accident or construction) was 15 minutes, tops. House Wonderful is ten miles from the same highway and all the roads are local. The best time to work is a half-hour, now. I don't mind, the drive is mostly pleasant, but I find that I get annoyed if it takes me 17 minutes to get to the highway, instead of 14. Three minutes isn't going to make a difference in anyone's life, right? Right?
I am so out of the pop culture loop... I mean, I know who Miley Cyrus is, and I even know that she's gone from a Disney-fied good girl-next-door to out Madonna-ing Madonna in her hey-day, but I had no clue what twerking was until after her performance on the MTV Music Awards. Wikipedia was very educational.
If you find yourself in a similar position, or you need to describe what twerking is, I refer you to this utterly hysterical article from the New York Times - Explaining Twerking to Your Parents.
As many, MANY people have said, thank god that the casting of Fifty Shades has been announced. Can we now see an end to all the Matt Bomer IS Christian Gray tumblrs?
I've rambled before about the wildlife outside of my office window. There were the giant hawkmoths copulating on the volunteer sycamore sapling. The giant spider building a web across the entire outside window. About two weeks ago, the cutest little snail in a shell showed up, going up and down the window, across and back again, like some poor lost soul. After a few days, he parked himself in the shady upper quadrant, under the eves and has been there since. Just all curled up in his shell. It poured this morning - the first serious rain we've had in weeks - and I guess the little guy found the environment to his liking. He poked his head out of his shell and with all the speed he could muster, he slinked down the window and into the oblivion of the undergrowth.
I'm going to miss the little guy.
I keep thinking about a promptfest. I know, after the White Collar Big Bang is turned in, I need to get started on the Polyamory Big Bang. Except that that's NOT going to be epic (I hope), and frankly, I'm going to need some headspace before plunging back into a long project. So...how does the first week in October sound?
And since no ramble would be complete without the obligatory Bonus Bomer, I give you...
