This episode better not let me down - it's an extra special Mozzie episode - and as I wrote in a post yesterday, I've been Kripke'd (my fan fic is proven in canon). So I've got high hopes - and the promos are very, very good.[Poll #1756987]As always - keep it safe, nice and sane. Love to you all!

Date: 2011-06-29 02:20 am (UTC)Loved, adored, think is the best ep EVER. I loved Mozzie had glasses as an infant WOW. That fight between Peter and Neal, yes, it was a little, a lot, too real. I loved Elizabeth in this and I wonder which crime Peter knows about.
I think that they're setting this up that if Neal and Mozzie are actually in a position to run that they will finally realize that they have no place to run to that they want to be more than where they are. Is heaven to a con man a place where he continues to pull cons through eternity, just one step away from the law forever? I would think Neal might get tired of that after the first 100 years or so.
Anyway, loved the episode so much.

Date: 2011-06-29 02:20 am (UTC)I think Jeff said on his Twitter the picture will be coming back in episode 9. Isn't that when Keller comes back?
But I love this episode. I was in stitches in several scenes. Oh Mozzie.

Date: 2011-06-29 02:26 am (UTC)Peter and Neal's fight had more than a little truth to it; and the wife comment and Peter's face was priceless.
Mozzie calling "the Suit" Peter was awesome, but then he tells Neal enjoy it while it lasts. They are doing a good job of boxing Neal in with all of this.
Matt is rocking the looks (not just physical) this season. The face he makes with Mozzie after the enjoy it comment and the one during the "its hard to say goodbye" scene.

Date: 2011-06-29 02:32 am (UTC)FANSERVICE ME MORE, EASTIN! *dies*
I loved Mozzie calling Peter...Peter.
The Russian treasure explanation - was I the only one who noticed the obvious sound overdub there? I have the stereo speakers, but that sounded pastede on to me.

Date: 2011-06-29 02:35 am (UTC)Now on to the show...
OMG This was White Collar at its finest. The argument in the betting parlor reminded me of when they were in the bank (can't remember the ep name) and the bank lady says something like "Are you done?" or something goofy and they both reply (at the exact same time) "NO!" I think that is my favorite scene, until this entire ep.
Elr...I thought of you so many times tonight, it almost wasn't funny. I nearly fell out of my chair when El said "Prom Picture" My comment (to myself) was "I see some slash in someone's future"
I'm going to get my one and only nitpick out of the way (mostly because it is so tiny)...did they strike oil in Neal and Peter's hair? GAWD I hate that slicked back look. HATE HATE HATE!!!!
Ok, I'm done.
The rest of the ep was just awesome. As I knew about the bear (and forgot about Elr using the name Mozart) I was pleasantly reminded earlier today. It does seems as if someone from the writers' group crawled in your head. Thank goodness it is an awesome place! :-)
Yeah, I too call bullshit on the Russian musuems, mostly because *THAT* was a toss-away line. It was too faked (okay, maybe a second nitpick)
Was it me or did Matt play Neal as being sort of angry all through the ep? Even before he hears about the Russian mob, it seems as though he's edgy and irritable. Throw in the whole Detroit mob and I could see where Neal was angry enough to pull Peter into the fray to protect Mozzie.
I wonder, did Neal know about the name Mozzie? He didn't seem that surprised, or at least not as surprised as Peter.
Tim DeKay is a god! Just wanted to say that! He was completely and totally awesome tonight and next week...all I'm going to say about next week is OMG! (for those who refuse spoilers). He had the best facial expressions throughout the whole ep, but the end, when he finds out about Mozzie's nick name...and the look he and Neal trade, so much better than last week's ending.
Someone comments about how Mozzie called Elizabeth "Mrs. Suit" and not Elizabeth and how that was a bad sign. I think he calls her Mrs. Suit as a nickname, a pet name, because when she is worried, (Payback and tonight), he called her Elizabeth. I like the name Mrs. Suit and I'll bet she does too.
FYI: In case you didn't know that Ruiz is over on Fringe! :-)
The scene with Neal in the black leather jacket, tight ass jeans and sunglasses...I stopped having a really shitty day about the second that scene aired (and I was having a REALLY shitty day too). The tux was nice, but it was off-set by the freakin' oil slick on his head (Can you tell I really hate that look! LOL)
That fight hit a little too close to home for Neal and for Peter. I don't think Peter was thinking when that popped out of his mouth. But I do think that that statement might come back to bite him in the ass at a later date.
Neal's comment about his hot wife! LOL That was a slap! And again, I thought of you Elr! :-)
I can stay up a little later tonight because I'm not going to work straight aways tomorrow. Have a doctor's appointment and decided that I could go there from home much easier than going to work and then leaving right away. I look forward to everyone elses' comments.

Date: 2011-06-29 02:55 am (UTC)But the moral of the story is: everyone looks hot in tuxes. I was actually kind of hoping for a little bit more comment on Peter in one from El, but I'll take the super hot kiss. I was missing them together last week.
I'm also a big fan of the last scene with Neal and Peter sans ties with open collars on those tuxes. Guhhhhh.
This may be an unpopular fandom opinion, but I'm not a fan of Mozzie-focused episodes. By the Book is easily my least favorite episode. Mozzie's like spice in soup for me. Too much and it overpowers the flavor. Just enough and it's perfect. So I wasn't really looking forward to this one, at least not in a super excited way. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. And not just the shippy character stuff. I liked the story and plot of it too, which, as we all know, is surprising for me. :D
I loved the opening with everyone getting their boring assignments. I love Jones and his dry delivery of his lines.
Ummm... I think that's all I have for now. I'll have to see on the rewatch.

Date: 2011-06-29 12:57 pm (UTC)I really loved how they showcasted the love everyone character in the show has for the others..although it was technically a filler ep, it didn't feel like one, because it was important to show what Neal and Mozzie have in NY.

Date: 2011-06-29 03:09 am (UTC)(Or maybe it's the week and a half long Supernatural marathon that's skewed my vision so that everything is supposed to be gritty and dark and emotionally wrenching.)
Though not to say there weren't highlights:
The second someone said "wire con" I threw up my hands and yelled: "The Sting!" And I was totally right.
Peter in a tux. Because... c'mon.
Peter and Neal's fake (REAL) fight. When Neal said: "And the next time your hot wife gets lonely-" I actually "OHHHHHHHHH"ed. Loudly.
Mozzie and El's talk in his hotel room.
How Mozzie escaped. (I'm going to have to remember that one.)
When Mozzie told Neal to enjoy his and Peter's relationship while it lasts.
The last scene when Neal says: "It's hard to say goodbye." (I'm pretty sure that's the quote. Or at least something to that affect.)
And of course the banana knife!
(Getting responses to comments is always nice but I'm sure you have shit to do so if I don't get a response I'll only need months talk therapy and happy pills instead of a suicide watch.)

Date: 2011-06-29 04:30 am (UTC)I thought Elizabeth egging Mozzie on to go get injured in place of Peter was pretty tactless :/
I liked the ending :) and the hard to say goodbye.
I liked that Neal talking to the thugs for the first time in his leather jacket? Looked so much like Matt!! :D I squeed!
I also squeed at half out of tux because I imagine he looks like that 5 minutes after he gets into the car from an awards ceremony <3 (then some tussled hair from making out with his husband XD)
The bear <3 the group home guy <3 the 12 year old Mozzie on his own conning and making a life for himself :D and him heading to nyc with 500k and never looking back <3
Love that they never revealed Mozzie's real name :)

Date: 2011-06-29 11:38 am (UTC)And, for me, that just went to reinforce the notion that, in life and death situations, Peter can completely trust Neal. :)

Date: 2011-06-29 03:24 pm (UTC)I thought that was one of the lowest points of the whole episode and nearly made me turn the TV off.

Date: 2011-06-29 03:58 pm (UTC)Peter wasn't anxious to arrest Moz--only to take him into protective custody. But he had to know the truth about to what extent Mozzie was guilty of the Dentist's crime. If Mozzie really had committed pages of violent crimes, then Peter would have (rightly) had to arrest him.
But Peter didn't jump to that. He let Neal convince him to hear Mozzie out. And he did not arrest Moz, but only kept him under protective custody while he sought verification that Moz had nothing to do with the violence.
I think Peter proved himself a mensch from first to last. And I think that Neal has every reason to trust him.
But, like I said, I don't expect you to agree; we just watch the show from different angles.

Date: 2011-06-29 04:21 pm (UTC)Instead :( it was all mistrust and gruding help.
Which granted I'm okay with too - just seemed like mixed signals! Either Peter respects Mozzie or he doesn't. He either somewhat trusts Neal or he doesn't. To me their argument was the most honest part of the episode.
I liked it. Loved Mozzie's backstory! Loved that Mozzie had faith in them and wasn't burned by it. I like that Peter and Mozzie ended in more respect. I just wish it had started better :(

Date: 2011-06-29 03:27 pm (UTC)So no I don't think Elizabeth should care about anything but Peter, but Eastin was trying to make us think she gave a shit about Mozzie then she turns around and tells him to go get himself killed kinda ruined that for me ;)

Date: 2011-06-29 03:50 pm (UTC)So actually it really didn't have squat to do with mozzie beyond his old alias giving them an in in the con.
Looking for Jeffries and helping him was about Mozzie but it was also about Peter saving the innocent caught up in the crime like they do every week.
I'm not saying Peter doesn't care about Mozzie, but by no means was Mozzie the driving the reason he was involved in the scam - that was for his case.

Date: 2011-06-29 05:43 am (UTC)I put "yes" on the poll, because the question was "does it matter?" Of course it matters, in that it makes a difference. But that doesn't make it an obligation; there are definitely times, especially when classes are in session, when I don't have time to answer comments for several days. But I do usually try and get to them in the end, because I feel badly when I don't.

Date: 2011-06-29 11:08 am (UTC)Mozzie/Jones
I'm glad I'm not the only one who instantly thought this.
I loved the whole thing, even the totally-didn't Fixit dub-over at the beginning because it at least means Eastin is trying to pay attention to fan concerns, even if his response is mostly made of fail.

Date: 2011-06-29 10:51 pm (UTC)And yes, I love a lot of the things everyone else does - cute bear, sexeh tuxes and leatherjackets, Prom picture and "hot wife" comment.
But I felt there was a "point" right at the end of the episode, where Mozzie waxes eloquent about the need to let go and leave everything behind for good - and the next moment he's being chummy with his childhood pseudoparent who he's clearly stayed in touch with all those years, showing quite clearly that there are things HE's not willing to give up.
I hope Neal sees the contradiction here, and that it helps him realize that while Moz talks a good game, the truth is that you SHOULDN'T leave a good thing behind and even Mozzie KNOWS it.
Wheee! best S3 ep yet...
Date: 2011-06-30 08:31 pm (UTC)The banana knife, LOL.
"Neil just complicated my day..." anklet tracked, connection found, and BINGO!, Peter finds a surprised Mozzie and Neal.
"Just try and make me" (cut to mozzie in back seat of car)
Well Mozz, you told him to make you :)
"Attica! Attica!!" bwahahathump. Overreact much?
baby mozzie already with the coke-bottle specs, Mozart the bear, running numbers by age 12... the kid(s) who played little Moz were great.
Mozzie threatens to sleep in the nude:
Peter: "make a list"
Jones (simultaneously) "I'll make a list"
Of course, the "prom picture"
Alas, poor Blake. So that's why he popped back up last week... to be Mozzie's patsy this week :)
That not-as-fake-as-originally intended fight. "doing who knows what with god knows who", "ungrateful bastard", you're a con and that's all you'll ever be"... and then Neal's exit line...
"If your hot wife gets bored, tell her to call me" OUCH! Said in the line of duty or not, Neal's going to pay for that one somewhere down the line. Personally, i imagine Peter telling Elizabeth what Neal said, and El giving Neal a more urgent reason to wear shades :)
I found it revealing that even though Mozzie has now clearly shown that he likes and even trusts (to save his neck anyway) Peter, it still doesn't for a moment occur to him to not run with the (figurative bloody fingerprints all over it, no matter what Eastin says/overdubs) art. Mozzie has been a con so long the possibility of not conning doesn't exist in his universe.
Oh, and P.S. : The promo for next week OMG! I hope at some point Neal gets to actually see Peter cut a rug instead of just listening in the van. The opportunites for future torture are nearly infinite :)
