Thirty Days of Fanfic - Day Three

3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?
Since I’ve said that I only really write in White Collar, I’m going to limit my answers to that fandom.
Hands down, I really love writing Peter/Neal – as a pairing. A close follow up is Peter/Elizabeth/Neal. There is something so very satisfying about them, together. It’s not just the porn. I love weaving in their canonical characteristics into the slash relationship – and it helps that the show runner really loves to slash his own creations. Come to think of it, one of the stars does too (I know of at least three times that TDK has made explicit reference to a slash relationship between Peter and Neal).
But, and this is an interesting “but” – the character I love writing the most is Mozzie. I love his voice – and I find it so easy to write. Maybe it’s the little bit of anti-establishmentarian in me that resonates with Mozzie. I keep hoping that he’ll come to his senses about the origin of the treasure. Millions of people (most of them civilians) died in the siege of Leningrad.
I don’t think there is a character I haven’t written at least once. Lauren Cruz was central in my still-unfinished Vampire World series, but she’s not made it into my more mainstream works, mostly because I’ve written based on canon after the end of S1, and she’d left the show.
I’ve written Satchmo, Bugsy, Blake (the probie), Bancroft, Hughes, June, Alex, Sara, Fowler, Kate. I’ll probably give Cindy and Agent Matthews a shot in the coming weeks (maybe during Promptfest). With the exception of Keller and Adler, who were the more interesting of the S2 villains (ok – Keller showed up originally in S1), I’ve stayed away from the bad guys – mostly because I don’t enjoy writing Neal-whump.
If I was, hypothetically, to write outside of White Collar, I’d probably write either Sam/Josh from The West Wing, Crais/John in Farscape, and Exley/White in L.A. Confidential. But don’t hold me to that. I’ve got more White Collar WIPs that I really want to think about.

Really? Because I'm pretty sure I've read Neal-whump by you recently!

Date: 2011-06-30 08:38 pm (UTC)I don't like to write (or read) Neal getting beat up, kidnapped or otherwise injured by the bad guy du jour just for the purpose of hurting him. That doesn't work for me.
I do write a lot of emotional hurt/comfort - a lot of angst, if you will. But physical damage without the underlying psychological rescue is not my cup of tea.

Date: 2011-06-30 10:12 pm (UTC)Oddly enough, I love Peter!whump. Maybe it's kind of how I love bottom!Peter: because it's so rarely written. But Peter's constant like a rock, and I love seeing characters like that made vulnerable.
Though on the note of not writing Keller because of not being into Neal!whump. I've written Keller several times and none of them have been whumpy. But I really try to write him as a sympathetic character. As much as you can, anyway. ;)

Date: 2011-07-01 02:25 pm (UTC)I'm not overly fond of bottom!Peter (even though I've written it) - more Peter willing to bottom, than having a submissive personality.
I have really enjoyed your treatment of Keller - but then, you always excel in turning characters around and making them sympathetic.

Title: Infidelity Blues
Summary: Unfaithfulness Doesn't Always Destroy Faith
Sam thought that the day Lisa gave him back his ring was the worst of his life. High on triumph after triumph in the primaries - and what was looking to be a straight shot to the Democratic Party nomination for Barlett, she just hands him his ring, tells him they're done and leaves.
But that's not the worst day - not at all. The worst day was finding that his father - the man he loved and admired all his life - was a liar and a cheat. A common adulterer. He felt sick and dirty and everything in the world was wrong.
Of course, by the end of the week, all of the Senior Staff knew - and he was getting puppy eyes from Donna and CJ, Toby wanted to help him drink away his sorrows. Fuck, even the President offered him a comforting shoulder.
But no, none of that was going to help. Especially not after learning that a man whom he had thought was innocent - a man that he passionately believed should have his name cleared was really the traitor he was named to be.
Now, sick and dirty didn't even begin to describe how he felt. So Sam finally went home, and all he expected was the stale, musty smell of an empty apartment. Finding Josh there, with cartons of Chinese takeout, two sixpack of beer and a stack of pretty decent porn was enough to make him weep.
Title: Sam/Josh - Misappropriating Resources
Summary: There are times when policy arguments are not always appropriate
"Shhh"
"What the hell are you doing, Josh."
"I'm looking for some lube - or something to use as lube."
The pair of them fumbled around the supply closet, pants around their ankles, erections playing peek-a-boo with their shirts.
"Josh - why do you think there would be anything approximating sex lubricant in a White House supply closet?"
Josh ignored Sam's question and continued to root around the shelves. "Ah ha!" Josh held up a bottle of hand cream. "I knew this was in here, somewhere."
Sam squinted at the object in Josh's hands - " Eucerin Heavy Duty Moisturizer. Why is that in the supply closet? That's not something that's on a GSA schedule."
"Sam - who cares. Maybe Donna ordered it. It's here, it's slick and we can fuck. Bend over."
"Josh, wait a second...do you really think it’s a good idea to use government resources to commit an act of sodomy, which was - until recently, illegal in Virginia." Sam's voice rose in volume and pitch as Josh dove in between his butt cheeks, smearing the sticky handcream around his hole.
"Shhh, shhh you idiot. Do you want them to hear us?" Josh squeezed more of the white stuff onto his fingers and began to breach Sam's hot, tight asshole. "Besides, Lawrence v. Texas invalidated all state non-commercial sodomy laws. Also, we're not in Virginia, we're in D.C., and it's been a decade since sodomy was illegal in the District."
Sam hissed. As Josh shoved him harder over the cartons of copier paper, his own rock hard dick got a bit crushed.
"Trust you to always have a policy argument ready."
Josh just grunted in reply. Sam's ass was, as always, hot and tight and perfect, and if he ever had to explain the misappropriation of resources, he could always use that ass as Exhibit "A" in his defense.
