You pretty much cover my entire feelings about Neal!whump. It just does nothing for me to see Neal beaten up for the purpose of being damaged and then comforted without any real character development happening.
Oddly enough, I love Peter!whump. Maybe it's kind of how I love bottom!Peter: because it's so rarely written. But Peter's constant like a rock, and I love seeing characters like that made vulnerable.
Though on the note of not writing Keller because of not being into Neal!whump. I've written Keller several times and none of them have been whumpy. But I really try to write him as a sympathetic character. As much as you can, anyway. ;)
