Random Things are Random

I know I've been kind of quiet lately. Or at least it feels that way, even though I've barely had a day without a post on LJ. But there hasn't been a lot of fanfic (again, it feels that way but my archive tells me that I've published two new longish stories in the last ten days, plus a few chapters of Danger'verse, plus a republishing of another story).
It just feels like I have been been writing anything - and that's actually sort of true. I've been blocked by how the season ended, the 2.16 tag I wrote not withstanding (the Neal/Sara story was mostly written before UTR aired).
I've also been trying to get my "epic" done - and I am pleased to say that almost all of the hard work is finished. There's still about 8 - 10k left in the story, but after 4 months, I am delighted to say that the ending is fully in sight. I suspect it will top out at around 70k (it's 61k now), and I'm going to publish one or two chapters a week.
There are other stories percolating - I've got my Queensland Relief stories to finish, plus the Remix I signed up for. The good news for the QRF stories is that I know where I'm going with all of them.
BUT - and this is a big BUT (sort of like the one that's in my chair right now) - I have a newsletter I have to write and mail (snail mail, guh) within the next ten days - so the fanfic is going to have to take a back seat to the pleasure of writing about Egyptian Revival in Art Deco Era porcelain. Yeah...it's a real thing. Since I need to get that out the door by the first week in April, I've got to spend some quality time on it this week and next. I like doing this newsletter - but I like writing fan fic more.
In other news...I'm still blocked from LJ at work - but my iPad (which I had purchased expressly for accessing LJ at work) is a lifesaver. But it does have limitations, which is probably the Number One reason for the lack of daytime postings.
And still, the Single Sentence Challenge Promptfest rolls on, with no ending in sight. We are now on the third post for the fest, there are almost 3900 comments and over 1000 fills. If you ever have felt the urge to write, but don't know where to get started, this is a good place. It's remarkably easy to tell a whole story in a single sentence - and a lot of fun. My dearest co-moderator,
coffeethyme4me has written 150 sentences for 150 prompts (give or take), and her word count is over 12,000. This fest is going to keep on rolling along for another week or so (all good things do come to an end), and April 1 is probably a good (and auspicious) day to shove a stake in the ground. This fest is (like all fests), closed to just my flist for the writing duration, but will be opened up for reading by the general public after it ends.
What else, what else my dear flist? Don't forget to check out White Collar Fixation on Tuesday evenings - I have a regular column there, "Thinky Thoughts on Seminal Scenes," and I am going episode by episode. This week, Threads is under the microscope, particulary the way it establishes the relationship between Elizabeth and Peter. I should say - you should be checking out WCF every day, for all the White Collar News and pictures and pic spam and fan fic recommendations you'll ever need.

Date: 2011-03-22 06:05 pm (UTC)Sorry that the work situation hasn't resolved. :/ Do you think it will or is this a permanent thing now that you can't get on LJ there?

Date: 2011-03-22 06:52 pm (UTC)I think I feel less productive because I don't have a million stories percolating in my brain like I did at the end of S1 (shakes clenched fist at Jeff Eastin for the stupid ending). I think I just have to retcon myself - or just focus on writing post-anklet stories with lots and lots of sex.

Date: 2011-03-22 06:54 pm (UTC)I think you are right, having something else to focus on may allieviate some of the blocks I've got now with my stories.

Date: 2011-03-22 06:16 pm (UTC)I keep thinking about either trying my hand at the single sentence prompt fest or maybe even trying to get the fic that is floating around in my head out on paper. If, as I suspect, I am without internet and cable at home until Thursday or Friday night, this might be the time to sit down and write some of these ideas down.
I agree with photoash, sometimes having to work on other things lets ideas marinate in the back of your brain and when you can get back to them, you have all these juicy ideas to go with.
Good luck with everything!

Date: 2011-03-22 07:13 pm (UTC)If you are really feeling masochistic http://www.lcfanfic.com/author_p.htm#PuthoffMichelle. I did win an award for Best Deathfic for Because You Loved Me! Which is a songfic on top of everything else. Seesh! There is an adult story somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure where.

Date: 2011-03-22 07:01 pm (UTC)I'm going to gather up my sentences tonight and start organizing them...and seeing what I want to build longer stories on. I'm thinking about dub-con Adler/Neal/Kate (but you've already done that so magnificently). Or maybe non-con Keller/Neal - pre-series.
And there are all those WIPs in my WIP folder...
But at least I'm making headway on you know what!
Thank you so much for all of your cheerleading - I have definitely needed it.

Date: 2011-03-22 07:04 pm (UTC)It's been a lot of fun - I've got a few more sentences left in me, too.
Don't worry about your WiPs - I used to feel that way too - but they'll keep. I think there are over 30 in my WIP folder - and they don't really ever spoil because when it get josses by canon, just call it an A/U!
HUGS YOU TIGHT and CHEERS YOU ON

Date: 2011-03-22 07:24 pm (UTC)But losing my pc for so long really threw me for a loop, I think, creatively. However, looking at all my fills for the Sentence Prompt game, it's at 142 fills and ~6700 words, so I guess I have been writing...
