These books were so special to me as a young girl. ❤️❤️

Me too, I devoured the whole series the spring and summer I turned 11, re-reading them endlessly. The only book I didn't like was "The First Four Years", the whole tone was so different. I didn't know, until many years later, that that one had been mostly written by Rose Wilder Lane, the daughter. But they were so formative for me. I always found the television series a little lacking because it deviated so far from the books that I loved.

Remember how I said in one of your previous posts, that my identity as a reader at me apart from the rest of my family? This series is a perfect example. Every year for Christmas, my siblings got toys, I got a collection of books. It was one of the nicest and most thoughtful things my parents ever did for me. A lot of times I felt forgotten or misunderstood, but this book collection, the Black Stallion ones I got the year after, made me feel seen. ❤️❤️ The year after that, they gave me a typewriter and it is still the best gift I ever received. ❤️

Yes, these books were so important to me, too. I wish I still had my hard copies. Sigh...

One of my dearest friends is collecting LIW's letters and newspaper writings and can talk endlessly about her as a real person. I just love the Little House books and the way they made me feel.
