Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has never known it, but he has always been the Force’s Champion, destined to suffer infinite sadness in defense of the Light. On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.
But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.
Or,
Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.
He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.
Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.
Chapter Summary: It’s a strange thing, but Obi-Wan has no concrete memory of finding his kyber crystal when he made his Gathering trip to Ilum in the last timeline. He remembers going to Ilum, but he can’t remember actually finding the blue crystal that powered his 'saber until he’d lost it during the battle with the Sith on Naboo.
He’s kind of freaking out about it. And the whole trip to Ilum. It’s the Visions thing - how it’s going to interact with all of his midi-chlorians.
Obi-Wan is in for a very big surprise.

As always, I am deeply grateful for all the love you’ve given this story, the outpouring of comments on the last chapter - the guessing on where the story is heading - makes me so very happy.
Lots of forward progress on the story, and I’ve tied up some hanging threads, giving a beat-down to our favorite bad guy (nothing terminal, just some well-deserved pain), and opened up a whole new can of headaches for the Master of the Order.
198,989 words, 39 chapters
Oh boy is there a lot going on in this chapter. Ilum! Lightsabers! The Force! Snarky Yoda (okay, that’s nothing new).
Let’s unpack some of this…
Professor Huyang
I’ve said on several occasions that I have not watched The Clone Wars, just a few episodes. My knowledge of the series comes from deep dives through Wookieepedia on various subjects. So I "found" Professor Huyang when I started writing this chapter in early March, 2024 and of course, he had to be part of this chapter, helping Obi-Wan build his 'sabers. I had noted that the character had been created for TCW episode "The Gathering" and that was that. I had not watch Ahsoka and had no clue that David Tennant reprised his role for that show until months later when I saw a gif-set on my Tumblr feed. I’m mostly off that hellsite these days - just using it to post chapters and excerpts to promote the story.
I know from TCW, The Gathering, that his workshop is aboard The Crucible, but I’m giving him a permanent and better equipped workshop in the Ilum temple.
Mandalorian Jedi
Observant readers are observant.
No, that’s not a mistake. In this timeline, there have been other Mandalorian Jedi. And remember, Mandalorian is a creed, not a race.
As for the Mandalorian-obsessed padawan, I’ve already given you a hint about who that is. In this chapter.
The Force
Does the Force work like this? Who knows? George certainly didn’t. He retconned the whole midi-chlorian idea into the Prequels trilogy and wanted to add in the Whills as well.
Anyway, I wrote the whole Force-Obi-Wan dialogue before I discovered the Wellspring of Life/Force Planet thing and so had to rewrite it. For those who aren’t familiar with it, Force Ghost Qui-Gon tells Master Yoda about it in Season 6 of TCW and Yoda travels into the heart of the Galaxy. The episode is called "Destiny".

Obi-Wan’s Lightsabers
Of course Yoda and the Council is going to have a betting pool on the color of Obi-Wan’s 'saber. Since Yoda’s 'saber is green, he wants Obi-Wan to have a green blade, too.
But naturally, he has to have matched purple blades. He’s just that special.
Alas, no overused gundarks to count this week.

Mandalorian Jedi
Observant readers are observant.
Underneath a mess of things that look like they have nothing to do with lightsaber construction, Obi-Wan finds two perfectly matched hilts, milled out of some darkly silvered material.
"May I use these, Professor?" He holds them out to the droid.
"Oh ho! I had hoped you would find those, padawan. Do you know what that material is?"
Fifty-seven year-old Obi-Wan does, but sixteen year-old Obi-Wan wouldn’t. "No, sir."
"They are made from pure beskar, gifts from Tarre Vizla over a thousand years ago. He was the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi. He sent them to me after he’d left the Order and become Mand’alor. A certain young padawan, much infatuated with Mandalorian culture, might have wanted one of those hilts, but I couldn’t bear to see them separated, so I put them away. Pure beskar is one of the few materials in the galaxy that is resistant to a lightsaber blade. It is one of the reasons why the Mandalorian Wars were so violent and devastating." Huyang sighs. "It feels like it was only yesterday …"
No, that’s not a mistake. In this timeline, there have been other Mandalorian Jedi. And remember, Mandalorian is a creed, not a race.
