That LJ Anniversary Thing

It's sad that just as I'm reaching my tenth anniversary, I'm abandoning LJ. But I have no choice.
Dreamwidth is, by leaps and bounds, a much better platform and I'm only sorry that it's taking so long to discover that. It's not just that the owners have pledged not to (1) make this ad-supported, (2) take on outside investment, and (3) never interfere with legal content - which are all HUGE things. It's that they are incredibly responsive to users.
For example, one of the issues I knew I'd have with running the challenge comms here on DW would be scheduling postings. The FAQ was ambiguous and there were hints that this was possible, so I opened a support ticket. I had an answer within an hour (no official way to schedule a post YET, but if you have an email client which permits scheduling emails, you can use that to post via email. And the email posting set up is fantastic.)
Another example: I've got a lot of communities that I manage on LJ that need to be ported over. But DW has a limit on the number of comms a member can create in a week (3). That would mean I'd need about two months to get everything set up here. So I opened a support ticket and

There's a lot to explore here on DW - features that I had no idea existed (turn on the Test Beta Features function and you'll get a brilliant new Create Entries page). I'm looking forward to becoming an active journalist again.

(And please think about importing Coffeethyme over to DW, if just to preserve it and all of its delicious content).

Date: 2017-04-16 04:43 pm (UTC)I will certainly consider that! I may need to go through and cull any cringe-worthy personal posts first. I saw one that I deleted just now because it was like seeing another person's words coming 'out of my mouth' so to speak, like literally another person who I've put in my past (you know who I mean) and not like myself at all and it was physically revolting in all honesty. But fic-wise, it would be nice to have the back-up! Also, may I just say that your "comments received" is the most staggering number I've seen yet! WOW!!! <3

Date: 2017-04-16 05:06 pm (UTC)I do wonder - for your own sanity - that perhaps you should only keep the fic posts? I know that there a lot of stuff you need to discard, like sweeping out the apartment just before you leave for the last time.

Date: 2017-04-17 07:25 pm (UTC)And I realized later that the link wasn't working once we posted it to DW (duh! I'd just driven home from spending the weekend with family, though, so that's my excuse for being brain-dead ;-)), but you can see your LJ stats at the bottom of this link: http://www.livejournal.com/18

It's all those promptfests I ran. Some of them had comments in the thousands!

Those were definitely the days that will never come again. Remember Sentence Fest?
