I freely admit, I have allowed myself to get in over my head with writing commitments. I cheerfully signed up for two prompts for [Poll #1598847]Your input is appreciated, but may be ignored without penalty.
I would post in each of the communities and say, "I was excited and I over committed myself. I want to publish FINISHED works, so it will take me longer than I thought."
I try not to read WIPs becuase I've been burned so badly by some of my favorite authors. Think of it that way. You would rather finish your beautifully written, hot, complex stories one at a time and give them the attention they and your audience deserve than scramble to just complete them.
You do this because you have something to say about the characters and you want to tell the story WELL. Time is a demon on all our backs. Recognize that and say, "Next time, I'll look at my list of commitments BEFORE I inflict more torture on myself."
Hope this helps.
Now go write more porn, please. My husband is waiting.
Thank you for your excellent suggestion. I am not worried about any of the bingos...I've basically got 6 months to fill them.
It's the committment to SmallFandomFest that's troubling me. I think I'm going to take you up on your suggestion and post an apology - that the stories will be written but they can't be finished by the deadline. If it means I can't participate next round...then so be it.
With regards to the epic Renaissance thing, which I've told you about already...I was hating it, but now I'm loving it. Seriously loving it, and I want to do it justice.
Wow! You have signed up for a lot of things; maybe you should think about dropping one or two of the ones you haven't started yet, if that's possible? I say this because fanfiction should be, above all, fun to write, not a reason to feel pressured. I would help you more, but at present I cannot seem to write anything. I really wish I could help, though. Oh well. I guess the one thing I can do is say that you shouldn't worry about my story at all until you're ready for it; I'm certainly willing to wait, so take your time. Good luck! &hearts
PS: I DEMAND PICTURES FROM YESTERDAY, YES I DO. I am considering going to stalk see them despite my issues with agoraphobia and my resulting fear of NYC. I'll just drug myself so I don't know what's happening. Then again, that would defeat the purpose of seeing them. GRR. But yes, I do hope to try to get it together enough to find them filming and, hopefully, meet Matt and Tim. I desperately need a Matt!hug and Tim!hug in my life right now. Like, seriously.
The bingos aren't an issue - I've almost done with the Kink Bingo (if I don't do the planned blackout). I have already written two stories for H/C bingo, which qualifies me for the next round, and I've got 6 months for the A/U and the Kiss bingo.
You should definitely try to go to a location shoot. You won't regret it.
If you make it to Seattle, I live in Tacoma, thirty minutes down the road. I could take you to the Emerald Queen buffet which is pretty good or the Burke Museum which has the best collection of Northwest Indian Art in the USA.
I would definately like to meet you, if I do go to Seattle. I've been to the Burke - it's attached to the U/W (my friend is a retired professor of anthropology from there).
I've been to the Glass Museum in Tacoma (love the Chilhuly in the walkway), too.
But I've never heard of the Emerald Queen buffet. What is it?
The Emerald Queen is the Puyallup Tribe's Casino. They have two, but the one I like is in Fife with a Chinese buffet. They also have Sushi and multi ethnic food.
That is as close as non Salish speakers could come. The correct way to say it is more like Spual a pubsh. Salish has lots of consonent runs and dipthongs.
The mountain known as Mount Rainer is actually Tac hoh bed or Ta cuh bed which came out with English speakers as Tacoma
I don't know. Honestly...because sometimes it seems to come so freakin' slowly.
Like it takes two days to write the porn for a finger-fuck double penetration fic - all of 1200 words. But the rest of the story comes (PUN INTENDED) in about 45 minutes.
When it comes to writing do as you will, when you want. It's a creative process and therefore subject to when you have inspiration and time. There are other things in life that take priority, but there are some of us that get a thrill from seeing something new for you too. It's your life... write what you want when you want.
I've reached out to SmallFandomFest, and they're cool with not getting the prompts filled by the 31st. I can actually hold them until the next posting window, which starts at the end of November. Which means, I can keep working on the Renaissance A/U until it's done. It has the potential for 20K or more, and I am thrilled to be able to take the time with it.
I honestly think you've spoiled us so far, with all your incredible stories. But that may lead you to feel unnecessarily under pressure: thinking that you owe us, or fearing that you will lose readers if you slow down your output.
You have to put yourself first, and write what you want (or take time out from writing, if that's what you need). We will happily read anything you produce, as and when you post it!
Thank you! I always appreciate your strong support.

Which means I can relax, spend some quality time with V-World, put a few chapters under my belt and then focus on other writing projects.
Sorry, Kane got me so flustered, I forgot to post about your WIPs -- the good ones will keep the fans checking back, so don't worry about losing readers.
There's a Chronicles of Riddick WIP I've been waiting on a new chapter in for more than a year and a half. It's not dead, the author has had RL issues that have severely cut into her writing and there's a shorter fic she was in the middle of that she wants to finish before getting back to the CoR one. But it's such a good story, that I'll wait for it. Maybe not patiently, but I will wait. :-)
All that to say if you miss a week or three on VW, we're not going anywhere.

Date: 2010-07-29 02:48 pm (UTC)But I need to get away. If I stayed home, it would be a vacation. I'd be on the phone with the office all the time.
But never fear, wherever I go, the plan is to write porn.
