Day 30 – Your least favorite movie

Damnation Alley

This is probably the worst movie I've ever seen in a movie theater, and one of only three movies I've ever walked out of (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and King of Comedy are the other two). I was twelve years old, my sister and her best friend wanted to see this (maybe because Jan-Michael Vincent was hot?) and I guess I tagged along. I even remember the theatre and the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon, because when I walked out (those stupid giant scorpions were making me ill), all the stores in the shopping center were closed.

I honestly don't remember what my sister and her friend thought of the movie, but to this day, Damnation Alley is my benchmark for truly terrible movies that I hate (as opposed to terrible movies that I actually liked).

For me, in recent history, it has to be "Death to Smoochy" 2002 with Robin Williams and Edward Norton. Even tho it had negative views my DH just had to see it. It was so bad, he wanted to leave and I wouldn't let him (after he dragged me there). Just to irritate and annoy him more, stayed for the credits which included Elvis Strojko doing a figure skating routine. That awful movie gave me credit for at least 2 chick flicks among other things.

Modesty Blaise. A 1960s movie adaption of a British comic strip. The comic strip (and the books that followed) are wonderful. Beautiful ex criminal and her devoted (but platonic) side kick freelance for British Secret Service. They were campy, delightful romps, better than James Bond (books or movies) because they had the fun spy stories without the misogyny and self destructiveness that the Bond series is prone to (though like Bond they suffer from a lot of period typical racism and British post colonial paternalism).

The movie? Well they cast Monica Vitti as Modesty and turned the character into a breathy Italian sex kitten. It's a mess of a movie. A complete waste of a great franchise.

It's been fun reading your movie picks. I've got a couple I'm going to have to watch/rewatch. Thanks!
