Emmy Nominations are out!

The Normal Heart has been nominated for Best Movie, and much of the cast is up for the honors, too.

Sadly, SHAMEFULLY, the movie, The Normal Heart, was not nominated for Best Movie or Mini-Series, (ETA: My apologies. The list I was looking at had a mistake - the section was titled "Best Movie or Miniseries". The list was also incomplete, as it did not include "Best Movies")

Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight, HBO
The Normal Heart, HBO
Sherlock: His Last Vow, PBS
Trip to Bountiful, Lifetime

Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie

Chiwetel Ejiofor, "Dancing on the Edge"
Martin Freeman, "Fargo"

Best Supporting Actor, Miniseries or Movie

Alfred Molina, "The Normal Heart"
Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"

Martin Freeman, "Sherlock: His Last Vow"

Kathy Bates, "American Horror Story: Coven"
Angela Bassett, "American Horror Story: Coven"
Allison Tolman, "Fargo"
Ellen Burstyn, "Flowers In the Attic"

(ETA: I had thought Julia Roberts was snubbed, because I didn't see her on the list for Best Actress.)

They split the categories this year and had a best miniseries AND a best movie. TNH was nominated in the best movie category. I watched them live this morning and see this link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2014/07/10/full-list-of-2014-emmy-awards-nominees/ Would have been a crime had they not gotten the nod. And Julia Roberts got a nomination in best supporting actress.

You scared me there for a moment. I couldn't imagine that TNH wasn't nominated for Best Movie.

And, just WOW on the Best Supporting Actor nominations!

My fingers are crossed for Mark and Matty.

ABC got it wrong too. Had to go back to the WaPo to make sure I hadn't dreamed it.

I was wondering how they could nominate five of the movie's actors and not the movie itself, LOL.

Fingers crossed for Matt and the movie!

(Sadly, I wasn't moved by Mark Ruffalo's performance. Jim Parsons did a fabulous job, though.)

Okay, make that six of the movie's actors. Julia Roberts was fabulous too! :D

I'm not really surprised by that. While her role was critical and she had one of the most moving scenes in the film, her total screen time was low compared most lead roles. At least that's my guess as to why they submitted her for Supporting and not Lead.

Pretty much the entire cast not named Mark Ruffalo are supporting characters. Also, what Pooh said. :-)

I was moved by Ruffalo's performance, I thought he did a good job with the role and I really felt his desperation toward the end of Felix's life. But I was particularly moved by Jim Parsons eulogy - for me, that was the most impactful moment of the movie.

I didn't feel Mark Ruffalo too well. Maybe it's because I have this thing where raised voices really freak me out, but I felt more battered than moved by Mark Ruffalo's performance. It only struck one single tone throughout. His last scene was good, and in the food fight scene, despite the yelling, I felt him, but for most of the rest of the movie, I was trying really hard to tune him out.

Jim Parsons eulogy was brilliant. Though the last scenes, of him just taking out the Rolodex cards and putting them in a drawer, that hit me the hardest.

I really felt Mark's anger - but I think the problem is that the role itself is more of a screed in human form than a living, breathing person.

I thought Mark's performance really humanized the role.

Yeah, definitely! Much like Matt's performance really filled out Felix's character.

It so was! Before Avengers, I really liked Mark but didn't know how well I could see him as Ned, but after Avengers...oh yeah. And I snagged this icon back then because I knew I'd be able to use it for Normal Heart as well. LOL

But he was cast as Bruce well before Avengers came out, at least I'm fairly sure he was. OTOH, somebody could have seen his performance during production. It IS weird, especially since before Avengers he was generally known for playing mellow dudes.

I don't have any more set stalking power left in me. Plus I think now Matty is gonna have a lot of press stuff to do so he will be busy. Poor baby, with being sick and all. But this is a great news and I just want him to win so much :)

It says a lot that so many of the actors were nominated. It's tough, though, that most of them are up against each other in the same category.

I think this is the first time Matt was nominated for an Emmy. He did win the Critics Choice TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Normal Heart.

How can a movie win Best Movie and yet NONE of the cast win?!? Seriously, even with 4 out of 6 nominations for Best Supporting Actor, nothing! GAHHHHH!!

I was really bummed that Matt did not win. That was such a fantastic performance.
