The blue skies at USA Network seem to be suddenly dark and stormy. A definite shift in tone this season. And we begin another episode of the Post Ep Dish, for Episode 5.04 - Controlling Interest. Been looking forward to this one A LOT...how are they going to resolve all those wonderful dangly plot elements from last week - are they going to draw them out or solve them quickly?
Follow along with me as I squee in real time.
Why is Peter investigating Seigel's murder? He's White Collar, not violent crime.
15 days - wow! Do you know that this is one of the rare moments in canon when they acknowledge the passage of time.
Peter sounds so broken. There's counseling available for those who need it, and it sure seems like Peter could use some.
Neal's under house arrest? Is that the CI's version of compassionate leave?
Is Jones going to be Neal's new handler. I wonder - Jones doesn't seem like he'd be able to really handle Neal (except, perhaps, in bed).
Mozzie - Miss Incarcerated. Is the shower cap his crown? And
theatregirl7299 wants to know why a bald man is wearing a shower cap.
For what it's worth, I think if Moz was to move into House Wonderful, I'd abandon it in a heartbeat.
Bushwick is a little far out of Neal's radius, isn't it? Didn't ANYONE think to check Neal's tracking data?
Mozzie puts his fate in the Suit? Wow?
Peter's in charge - and he's taking charge. It looks like someone has an old-new handler. Yippee!!!! The Boys are Back in Town!!!!
Accounting case? I agree with Neal - not a great place to start.
But something more interesting has come up - a bag full of bloody money.
Aww - Neal's giving the turn yourself around speech.
Jones on the 'nip - Real Housewives. Peter's 'nip - mysterious crimes, naturally.
Neal's introduced as Peter's "co-worker."
Neal's about to do a little social engineering - he carries around pictures of himself to create fake IDs
Peter is frightening...seriously scary! As Lola says, Dom!Peter strikes again.
Manhattan Mutual, the worst secured bank in New York City
(What's with all the tilt-shift camera work, btw? I miss you, Russell Fine, DP, very much)
Guilty feeling criminals are the ones most likely to reoffend. And Neal's just thrust his head into the lion's mouth. Wondering where this is going…
(getting a little worried)
Poor, put-upon Peter… "Eternally, some might say."
"Money may not be a problem for a guy like me." Ohhh, I so believe that.
Neal - the social engineer at work. Love these scenes when he shows off to Peter, gives him the tricks of the trade, like how to push the blue diamond in Diminishing Returns.
Neal "I'm a wall." A wall made of balsa wood and wet sand, maybe?
(Why isn't Neal wearing a wire? Why isn't there a team listening in, ready to rescue him? Inquiring minds want to know)
Too interesting to be normal
Pathological assumption that he needs to be the smartest person in the room. Doc, hate to tell you, but unless Peter's around, he IS the smartest person in the room.
His behavior is sociopathic - deceit and manipulation - she's getting into his head. Except that Neal does admit to his mistakes. Didn't he admit to his mistakes with Moz at the end of last week's ep?
Neal is having a panic attack or is he drugged?
He's drugged! Drugged Neal in Canon!!!!!!! Oh, the hurt/comforteers are weeping with joy right now.
(but a panic attack would be just a good)
Hypnotherapy? Nice lie, doc.
Shaken Neal is shaken. Love that he runs right to Peter. Neal looks at Griffith and sees himself. Wonders if he could ever change.
Moz is going to drug Neal?
Back down the rabbit hole. Matrix reference!
More drugged Neal. Wonderful!
Moz as Spirit Animal. Why does that thought terrify me?
(Dark episode is dark)
HOLY CRAP - Neal is all id at the moment. Poor Mozzie!
And Neal! Rutroh! Burkes! Just came here to get something off my chest! (Love the startled look on El's face).
As the ever-wonderful
theatregirl7299 points out, "things are falling apart so beautifully"
It's so satisfying to see inside Neal's head like this - the vulnerability, the exuberance. Kid!Neal in an adult (and very hunky) body.
(That sweater does something to me)
Peter is abusing something here, asking him about Seigel when he's drugged. It feels all kind of wrong (but at least Peter seems to know that he's about to cross a line). But Mozzie to the rescue!
Awww, Peter's not going to let Moz take him away, he's going to take care of Neal.
And cue up a new morning, where badass Peter is bad…
Neal - you're not going drug her, are you? Well, Apparently, you are.
Okay - this is a big WTF? moment for me… Are we recycling Vital Signs now?
Hmmm, not loving this ending. I don't think that Peter's explanation about the doctor drugging herself is really going to hold up in court.
Interesting look that Peter gave Neal. He knows that Neal's involved with something, up to his neck, but he's also patient. If he puts the screws on Neal, it's going to go to hell quickly. If he waits and watches and lets it play out, just maybe he can fix things.
Moz has the money??? Awwww Neal gave it to him. No truer friend (but he wants to get Moz out of his apartment).
"What strings are you going to cut?"
"When it comes time, all of them."
That's chilling. Brilliant, but chilling. Neal's embracing his criminal id again...we'll see how long that lasts. I do prefer reformed Neal, but criminal Neal is way more interesting.
Okay, folks - that's tonight's dish. What are your thoughts? Thinky? Not so thinky? Pissed off that we haven't gotten any nipples this season? Angry at Peter? Annoyed at Neal? Totally in love with Mozzie?
Let me know - and I promise that THIS WEEK, I'm going to engage with you (last week was a bit problematical, what with the superawesome DC meetup that I still need to squee about).
Follow along with me as I squee in real time.
