HP Fic Rec - Daylight by Traintracks

Sometimes, if you are really good, really blessed, you give a prompt to a friend - a prompt that you figure will be filled as a drabble or ficlet - and it becomes the most exquisite novella imaginable.
You may not know this, but
coffeethyme4me, one of the leading lights in White Collar fanfic, also writes in the Harry Potter fandom as
traintracks777 (or
traintracks on DW). She mostly writes Sirius/Harry (so yes, there are warnings for some under-age), and this story, called "Daylight" (on DW or on LJ), takes your expectations about that relationship and blows them away.
"Daylight" starts with the premise that Sirius Black didn't die at the end of Order of the Phoenix, and runs with it. I was privileged to read this as a work in progress over the last eight months, and my heart was broken, mended, rebroken and fixed again. As with the best stories in the HP fandom, it takes the canon and reimagines them. I really don't want to say anymore about the plot, other than it's intricate and lovely and heartbreaking. It's also something of a fix-it story, repairing some of the developments in canon that the author (and more than a few fans) may have disagreed with.
It's a long story - weighing in at over 43k, but it's broken up into six manageable pieces - except that once you start, it will be a challange NOT to finish it.
And since it was written for the
au_bigbang, there's some awesome, gorgeous art for the story, by
lonewined.
Go read it, now.
