Day 5 – Favorite drama movie
L.A. Confidential

I had sort of stopped going to the movies when L.A. Confidential came out. For years, I could go to the movies two or three times a week, but around 1997, I just stopped. So, I didn't see this movie in the theater, which, in retrospect, really bums me out.
But when I finally did see it, it blew me away. I'm not a fan of violence in movies, generally because it's usually pointless, noisy, and upsetting. But the scenes in L.A. Confidential are an exception because they actually serve the story and you can see how the characters, while actually hating their own violence, understand just how useful it is.
A note about the movie poster. Kim Basinger is front and center because she's beautiful and has boobs. Kevin Spacey's up front, too. I guess because the previous year he'd won the Academy Award for his role in The Usual Suspects. But the two real stars of the movie, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe, are barely there - even though they are in almost 90% of the scenes.
