Hey there!

I have survived...no damage to my house, the only visible consequences of the storm are my neighbor's birch tree (which had problems before the storm) and lots of leaves all over the place.

I am without television or internet (this is going out from my iPad).

I am also without a car. I didn't want to worry you, but my car refused to start on Saturday, and it still does. I need it towed to the Audi dealership, which does not have telephone service. So I am stuck with the car in the garage and no way to get it towed. It seems like the starter motor - it powers on fine, just won't turn over.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Glad to hear you're alright. It's good your ipad is working so you can call around to other places and such if you have to.

Remarkably, we did't loose power, internet or phone and so far, though the Hudson hasn't crested yet, water is fine.

I am lucky...the area 50 yards north of me is without power.

So glad to hear that your house made it through unscathed and that you are well.

So sorry to hear about your car. It's really bad timing, given that neither you nor the car dealer currently have phone service! Best of luck getting that worked out.

Here in my part of Northeastern PA, we had a lot of rain and wind, a few areas near a "creek" (not sure what defines creek vs. other types of tributaries) that is prone to flooding were evacuated for a while on Sunday, there's lots of leaves, branches and debris on the ground, and some people lost/are still without power. I had a slightly antsy cat, and a bit of a worry when my karate instructor reported his power was out early Sunday morning, as he doesn't live very far from me, but other than that things seem okay.

The car - yeah. Very bad timing...but it could have been worse. I could have been out!

The neighborhood just north of me is without power, and so is my car dealership. I have a rental. Not happy about the expense, but I don't have much of a choice.

Seriously, though, glad to know there was no damage, and hope the car gets fixed soon. I realize things are different over there, even in NYC, when it comes to transportation.

I was going to say something about not being smug...but then I realized I didn't want to tempt the fates.

And I do have internet - via my iPad. So I'm not COMPLETELY cut off.

Car dealership is without power, but I have a rental and am now at the office. Which has power and internet and AC and I'm good.

Thankfully, I don't work in Manhattan.

My car - alas both local dealerships are without power, so it may be a few days. A few expensive days with a rental. Grrrr. First time I've had problems like this in a dozen years.

We weathered the storm OK, modulo losing power for nine hours. But we were comfortable and dry, and the girls saw it as a big adventure of being able to run around shining flashlights at each other, so all was well. This morning, we found a massive tree down in our across-the-street neighbor's front yard, but their house looked intact. All in all, it could be worse.

Does your car insurance cover rentals at all? When we had a car, there was some coverage for rentals when our car was in the shop for an extended period.

Car may take a while - the local dealerships are without power.

My phone is fine - I refused to get ride of the old-fashioned landline. It's the lack of cable and internet that's an annoyance.

You're the first of my LJ friends to "check-in" and I'm glad to hear that you're doing good. The timing on the car really does suck.

You've got to love technology, phones and electricity are down, but your iPad still works. There's a touch of humor to be found in that.

I'll add my $0.02 to the "I'm glad you made it through basically unscathed, but the car sucks" wishes!

My car stalled out in the drive way to one of the local malls last Tuesday. Was driving fine and then...puth...nothing! It would try to turn over but not. Thankfully my cell phone had some charge left (I'm horrible at charging my cell phone) and I could call AAA (thank god that I spent the $75 for AAA Plus) and had it towed to my mechanic, who had power, but had 12 cars ahead of me! LOL It was an ignition switch and $206(and some change), 2 days with a friend's spare car and a few more gray hairs than I had before, I'm up and running! So, I'm sending the car gods to look after you. Send them back when you are done, will ya? LOL

Not having internet would kill me. Just shoot me now. Although I do have an entire bookshelf full to my TBR books so it is not like I would have NOTHING to do. But still, it sucks.

I'm glad you have an old-school wired phone. People use to laugh at me because I kept one in my closet, just for such emergencies. I switched to cable phone so it doesn't matter now, but I still have phone.

Again, here's hoping the car isn't expensive and the internet gods smile and restore service quickly!

Rented a car, found out the dealership doesn't have power. Sigh...not an expense I really wanted.

I had to go to work, so I had to rent a car. Not happy about the expense, but I have no choice. My dealership doesn't have power, nor does the other one in the area.

I am out of milk for my coffee, but that's something I can live without. Have plenty of food otherwise.

Hopefully, will have television and internet when I get home. Much more important than coffee!
