If you’ve been reading my fic for a while, you know that I have a penchant for incorporating elements from other that I’ve written, particularly when I am writing a tale that’s part of the Paladin ‘verse. This one turned out to be a self-referencing bonanza. Just in case you thought you were going crazy - here are the references:

"At first, this need to possess disturbs him. He initially rejects Neal’s jailhouse offer more out of fear for his sanity than the belief that his clever felon was running some perverse con game." - Refers to The One Time Peter Lied to Elizabeth (and didn't come clean)

"That hot spring day two years ago, with the three of them on the couch, the first time Neal fucks Elizabeth as he fucks Neal, is burned in his memory. Just like their first kiss, which was a coming together that really had nothing to do with lust and everything to do with love and desire and a need to heal." One of several references to True Love’s First Kiss

"He and El once discussed a variation on this idea. Long ago, when they were still trying to figure out how their relationship with Neal was going to work, El asked him if he’d marry Neal if he weren’t already married to her. He didn’t even pause to think about the answer (although he supposed that the swiftness of his response may have been a little unflattering, except that El had followed up her question with her own statement of intent)." Right out of Do Ordain and Establish This Constitution

"Hughes may know what’s going on between them, he’s run interference for them with the Marshal’s office" from Questions of Position and Use of Authority

"He knows all about love – it’s an easy word for most people to say. While he doesn’t doubt that when Peter and Elizabeth told him they loved him, they meant it at the time, it was unrealistic to expect them to stay in love with him forever." Another reference to Preamble Redux, this time, In Order To Form a More Perfect Union

"His friend never really approved of the relationship. He was envious yes, but he can never quite bring himself to give Neal his full approval." More Preamble Redux: We The People

There actually may be more, but these were the ones that really stick out in my head.

"I am my beloveds’ and my beloveds are mine." This is the fourth fic that I reference The Song of Solomon. The first one was a bit of porn about Neal's superasternal notch - A Pillar of Ivory. The other two are part of the Vinegar Hill series - A Song Amongst the Song of Songs and Behold, Thou Art Fair.

Oh, the title is from Mumford & Sons After the Storm.
