This one is a pastiche of LOTR, which eventually spun off into something
like 20 sequels. As a teen, I'd found LOTR impenetrable, but I enjoyed SoS
immensely. Probably because of the artwork. None of the rest of the
Shannara books ever captured my interest. Terry Brooks has apparently just
published the last one last year. He wrote The Sword of Shannara in 1977,
the year Star Wars came out.
