Waves hi to another old lady! I, too, saw the OT in the theater as a pre-teen (and the only time I ever cut class was to go to opening day for Return of the Jedi, and honestly, I was a senior and all my exams were over anyway). I was 12 when Star Wars came out (and amusingly, I just had a conversation with a friend, she's around 40, if the crawl at the beginning said "A New Hope", and while I don't remember if it did, I know it said "Chapter IV" because we all freaked out, where were chapters I, II and III?
As you can see, I am both a Star Wars fan (though not a nerd) and a nostalgia dork. I've already added you to my circle (really do miss the old LJ term f-list, tbh) and look forward to chatting with you about anything of interest.
