Sara likes Neal. She always did. Even when she was convinced he stole her client’s Raphael. There is something about his smile, the tilt of his head, and yeah – that gorgeous body – that appeals to the girl that still lives inside her.
But that girl, as lonely and as needy as she is has to take a back seat to the balls of steel recovery agent who has a job to do. If she lets every pretty face and roguish grin distract her from her work, she’ll be living in some trailer park with a loser named Bubba. Or worse.
When she reaches out to Peter Burke about Edward Halbridge and the Samurai Bonds, she doesn’t expect to see Neal Caffrey trailing along. She knows he’s out, and not because he served his sentence. Her contacts just said that he had tried to escape, been caught, and in lieu of additional time, he got some cushy deal with the FBI.
Yeah, that‘s Neal – charming the birds out of the trees.
She never expects to be so charmed, and she doesn’t like that she is. She can’t afford it. It isn’t just about the Raphael. It’s about who she is and who she needs to be. Getting involved with Neal Caffrey goes against everything. He is a con man, a professional liar and he’ll destroy her without even realizing it.
Despite all the warnings, she falls for him, hard. It is as inevitable as the sunrise. She discovers his humanity, and it answers something inside her. For a moment, they are two lost souls looking for something to hold on to.
It works for a while and it could have worked a lot longer. Sometimes she wishes she is different. Most times, she’s glad she’s not. Or so she deludes herself.
