When people use the term "infidelity" they usually mean "adultery," and up until the last three months, Peter probably would never have thought any differently.
Now, Peter thinks about that word all too frequently - like every time he walks into the office and sees the FBI seal on the wall, ringed by its motto:
Peter thinks about infidelity and he thinks about OPR and Project Mentor and the lies and corruption that killed Kate Moreau; that nearly killed Neal. He thinks about infidelity and he thinks about the way the Bureau is protecting their own at the cost of the fidelity to the ideals that he swore an oath to uphold. He thinks about infidelity and he wonders how the threats to him and his family and his friend are tolerated, glossed over like they were taunts on a playground, but his own actions to protect the ones he loves are called into question and his honor, his own fidelity is smeared.
But, no matter what the cost of the Bureau's own infidelity to him, Peter will never be unfaithful to his own oaths – not just to his country, but to his family and to those he calls his friends.
