I think I figured all of this out except for the willingness to take a mate and instincts bits. Basically, Peter didn't really have his hand forced or anything, it was just a very good sign that YES, she's interested, maybe he should try and make it work.
The parallel to canon is really nice, by the way.
I will very much look forward to the deeper view of their marriage, and I don't expect to stop enjoying this any time soon. ^^
