Peter's right -- a beautiful 16-year-old should not be wandering the Yard alone at midnight. But Neal's right that Peter should bear the brunt of the blame for things going pear-shaped for them. Thank you for sharing this snapshot of their college years with us.
And it made me somewhat nostalgic for Cambridge in 1983. I was 12 (which is funny, because Bomer -- and, I assume, Neal -- is younger than I am). The T stop where Neal was waiting for was opened in (I believe) September of 1983 (Harvard Station was moved within Harvard Square in the late 70s/early 80s). I can *picture* the Harvard Square he lived in, with the Tasty, the Wursthaus, all sorts of places that were landmarks that are gone now.
I was glad, as others have said, that this was written out of chronological order, once we know that they've been happy together for 30+ years. I'd worry, otherwise, that theirs would be a future of uncertainty, of breakups and reconciliations. From the perspective we have, though, we know it's just a minor bump in the road for them.
