That's so weird - the stockings are hidden until the reveal, but not locked by any means. You can always see the comments you yourself have made.
In any case, while it might have been some weird LJ snafu (hardly unheard of), I feel like it probably wasn't fandom_stocking's fault; I've never found their instructions "abysmal."
