It was a good weekend. I did a huge grocery run at Costco, bought some stuff I really didn't need (but thought I deserved anyway). Plans were to make chili on Friday night, but I was just too tired when I got home. Also thought about going to the movies, but too tired for that too.

Saturday was a dedicated cooking and writing day. I got up early (7 AM) for a Saturday, was down in the kitchen making my seven spice chicken stew. Took about an hour from start to finish (including cleanup), and is really the first serious "cook" I've done in the new house (the horrid stir-fry doesn't count). I definitely need the island - the kitchen's big, but there isn't as much counter space as I've been accustomed to. (Cabinets delivered, will need to be installed before I can get the countertop ordered).

Late on Friday, I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] citrinesunset for the next entry in [livejournal.com profile] run_the_con, with the prompt "Late Night." This comm requires participants to publish a fill within 24 hours of being tagged. My fill, While the Stars Are in the Sky, is a type of story I haven't written in a long time - it's pure "first kiss" OT3 schmoop. No complicated backstory, no episode arc, just Peter, Elizabeth and Neal (and a little bit of Satchmo) that starts on the couch and ends on the way to bed. I've been writing long stories, epics, for so long, I forgot what it feels like to write a beginning, middle and end in a single sitting.

So, that was my Saturday - up to a point. I still wanted to see "Skyfall" and it was playing at 7 PM on an IMAX the movie theaters near where I used to live (about 15 miles away). I left at 6, figuring an hour would be plenty of time. First off, there was a lot of traffic (!!!!) and then the road was blocked for an accident and I lost a few minutes getting rerouted through a local neighborhood. That still left me with a half-hour to get a parking spot and get my tickets.

Except there were no spots, unless I wanted to park far away. Since the mall where the theater is would be closed when the movie was out, I really didn't relish the walk in the dark, alone. (This isn't the greatest neighborhood - very industrial). I found myself getting irrationally agitated, almost on the verge of a panic attack, and decided that discretion was the better part of valor. I went home.

(Besides, what idiot tries to see a major, highly anticipated movie on opening weekend????)

Yesterday was nice, except that my upstairs heat wasn't working again. The HVAC guys are back again - apparently there was something wrong with the way that the exhaust pipe was pitched - and they are fixing it. I don't like all the sawing, but while they're nice guys, I'd rather not see them again anytime soon.

Plans for the day:

1 - See Skyfall in the afternoon
2 - Buy a vacuum cleaner
3 - Finish Proposal fic
4 - Make chili

And in the continuing quest to get House Wonderful ready for guests, I've completely unpacked the "guest room" and found the box with my artwork. I hung two very important pieces today:

.

ETA: Those are in my office, not my guestroom. You can come visit anytime, but I'm locking the door!

Now, just need a little help getting the furniture moved around (it's heavy) and getting a bed in there, and Chez Elr will be ready for overnight visitors.
