Man how did I miss this story for a whole week? All I can say is thank you for mentioning it in your recap. Noncon/torture followed by comfort is my favorite kink and there isn't nearly enough of it out there. Have some bad guy hurt the beauty and have the strong protector come to his rescue and you have a happy, giddy me. Which means I can't wait for the next installment.
Like the others I loved the part where Neal remembered Peter's hug. I also felt Neal's desperation deeply at the end, as well as his wish to die, and feeling is what I expect from a good fic. This wasn't by any means over the top. Not by my standards anyways, which are, I must admit, a bit on the deep end of the dark side. Basically what's trigger for others would be buttons for me. :)
As you mentioned in your recap, this was almost Kripke'd by tonight's episode, except the show runners aren't as brave as you are. Maybe they read this fic and decided to tone it down to a shot to the leg and use it in the episode. It certainly didn't seem like a hindrance to Neal's ability to run, climb, or function.
Please bring in the comfort part soon. Can't wait for Peter cuddling an injured Neal. And once again, thank you for writing such a detailed dark story.
