Mind you, as with all comic book characters, whoever is currently writing the series can strongly define the character. I say that, because sometimes, the characters can just be written terribly. But, when the writers know what they're doing, the characters rock and their personalities just jump from the pages.
But I recommend "Oracle", one of my all time favorite heroes. She's smart, she's realistic, she's emotional, and she will NEVER let anyone define her but her.
