“I didn’t do it,” lies Caffrey desperately, and then he begs – truly, literally begs – “please, Peter, please get me home” – and Peter sees the bruises on his body, his dirty clothes, his thinned frame and the haunted look in his eyes, and though he has always wanted to catch Caffrey, he has never imagines it this way; he says “You couldn’t have simply stuck to the bonds and art, could you?”, and when Caffrey whispers once more: “Please, Peter, just get me home”, he answers: “We’re trying to get you extradited to the US”, and then Neal whispers a hoarse “Thank you” and slídes down against the wall, and suddenly Peter hopes, really hopes the Burmese don’t have enough evidence to connect Neal to the stolen gems.
