Impressed by his grit, Damien claims him and renames him, promising him freedom after seven years of service. But 'Cole' has a bloody past and secrets that will come back to haunt them both .

( Cole alighted from the coach first. A number of people were waiting out front to greet Damien, so Cole held the door for his master and then stepped respectfully to the side. Damien, meanwhile, hopped down and caught a pretty black haired girl as she ran into his arms. That must be his sister, Cecilia Anne. ‘Cecy’ wasn't worried about propriety—she had hiked up her skirts in her rush to greet her brother. Cole snatched a glimpse of impossibly long legs. )
