Chicago...

Your airports suck much moosecock. You are a midwestern city on a lake. You get lots of snow. Why, oh why did you have to close all but one runway for a little rain? Why did you have three hour delays for no reason?

Particularly when it means I don't get home until 1:30 am, and then have to get up at 6 am to get ready for work. Tired is the word of the day.

Anywho...

The White Collar Big Chicago Meetup is over (and i iz sad, much sad). [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 did a wonderful write up on Day Three, so I am not going to redux her recap...but I have to say this - hearing your own words and speaking your own stories is a very powerful thing. I see much podficcing in the future. While other fandoms may consider podficcing your own work to be highly self-wankful, I would like to propose that since the WC fandom is extremely wankless, that authors should read their own works and publish them to the comms.

[livejournal.com profile] hoosierbitch, [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 and [livejournal.com profile] afiawri and I read our own works on Monday morning...and it was a truly incredible experience. I am in possession of the audio files of the readings we did on Sunday and Monday, and hopefully all them will be in short order.

A few thinky thoughts about fandom:

I don't know if the White Collar fandom is typical of fandoms in general (it's my first, and probably my only), but I do know that it is populated by people who are breathtakingly wonderful. Kind and generous and funny and exceptionally talented. And that shouldn't exist just in the vacuum of the internet. Meet up with your fellow fans whenever possible - even if it's just for lunch or a cuppa something.

RL and IL can co-exist.

Anyway - gotta scoot. Need to do something (like consume mass quantities of caffine so I can stay awake for TONIGHT'S PREMIER (makes flaily hands).

And I went to check the news today, and for once, the banner ads on the NYT homepage didn't annoy the fuck out of me:

I can't believe it's mid-January already. It seems like Mozzie just got shot.

All signs have pointed to this episode as being superlative. I don't doubt that...just as I don't doubt that it's filled with the snappy dialogue, the gorgeous shots of Manhattan Island, plenty of glass and good looking extras. And Tatt DeBomer at their finest (and hopefully shirtless).

And more plot holes than can be found in Blackburn, Lancashire. Remember, folks. This was the last episode filmed for the season...JE decided to change the order of the shows...so unless they've done a lot of work in post, there may be things that are inexplicable until the rest of the season airs.

A word about the episode title - does anyone think its a nod to the 1980's British sci-fi classic, Blake's Seven, about a crew of escaped convicts trying to (1) overthrow the evil Terran empire and (2) save the innocent and prevent injustice and (3) grap as much loot as possible. Or is it really a homage to Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen? ETA – I did look up JE’s twitterstream – he does say it’s a homage to the Ocean movies…but in a way, I’m still right, because Blake’s Seven was also a homage to the original Ocean’s Eleven.

I do so wish I was back in Chicago, sitting with [livejournal.com profile] afiawri, [livejournal.com profile] hoosierbitch and [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 and watching it together. But you, the rest of my peeps, can play along and join this post ep dish and give me your thinky thoughts.

OKAY - HERE WE GO - SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT )
