Thank you so much. You've illuminated just what I was trying to accomplish here. They are smart people who like and respect each other - and want to make the other happy. And fail at it miserably.
I like the Neal/Sara dynamic. It works in canon well enough and it's not so overbearing that it makes fanon difficult.
