Fandom Snowflake Challenge 2024 - Day 6

Challenge #6
In your own space, share a favourite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.
Skipping Day 5 for the moment...
And goining all the way back to White Collar, the very first fandom I ever participated in, to the moment that really gave me the hard buzz (there were a lot of soft tingles along the way). Back in the Day, before streamers, when you actually had to wait a week for each ep, USA used to do short seasons and divide them in half, 16 eps, 8 eps with a month break. Hard Sell was the Season 1 mid-season cliffhanger ep and it was pretty fucking spectacular in all respects, but there's always one scene that gets me - when Neal, famously "not a gun guy" picks up a rifle and blows away some skeet "pigeons" to make his point to Peter:
"Just because I don't like guns doesn't mean I can't use them."
Up until now, Matt Bomer had been quite justifibly a lovely man. He's pretty, can do a bit of angst, but anger? That does not seem to be in his repertoire. But in this scene, he brings it and brings it hard. He's so furious, but it's not in an obvious way. I think I watched that episode a dozen times on Hulu the week it aired. More than a dozen years later, it's still an all-time favorite.

White Collar is one of those shows I've always been aware of but have never actually got around to watching but you're making a really good case for me to do something about that. And looking at the screencap, oh goodness that's a pretty man - yes, I'm shallow! :)

White Collar was such a delight, even when the episodes were uneven and the showrunner stopped caring. The cast was magnificent and they really gave a damn.
Have more of this very pretty man to be shallow about:

Yeah, I spent eight years not being shallow at all.

If you get a chance to watch Fellow Travelers you might want to. On the one hand, Mr. Bomer plays one of the leads in the main romance (which is told through, among other things, MANY glorious sex scenes). OTOH, he brilliantly portrays a complex asshole and every single episode will make you cry. His portrayal of cold anger, one of his character's biggest weapons, actually reminded me of this episode and other such moments in White Collar!

It's on Paramount+. It's really good, and Matt as Hawk is a perfect asshole.

I really loved that "Just because I don't like guns doesn't mean I can't use them." too and you're right, between that and the whole "Kate, we need to talk about Neal." bit at the very end, all bets were off when the series returned and gave me so much to chew on. ❤️❤️
