If you really needed a good reason to evacuate from LJ, this might be it
LiveJournal is blocking and deleting accounts that have posts that link to outside websites. It's supposedly because of a new spambot catcher, but it's affecting a lot of non-spam accounts. Affecting as in DELETING YOUR JOURNAL WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE.
You can read about it in detail here, but all I can say is that if you've been on the border about leaving LJ for DW, this really should push you over the fence.
I only picked this up because I occasionally go to my Friends page on LJ - maybe once a week - and I saw this on the HC Bingo comm.
Get out while you still have a journal to import.

(And the post you linked to got one of the "top 25 of LJ" comments on it. The irony!)

Thanks for the heads up.

Also, would it be okay to quote at least part of your post if/when I get around to basically saying the same on my DW/LJ? I don't think I could say it better than you did!!

You certainly may quote my post - or the post where the news was originally broken.
This is un-fucking-believable. Most of my posts have some kind of external link. My images are hosted externally. And you know what, I haven't even checked to see if my journal still exists on LJ!

And your LJ must still exist, b/c I actually saw your post there first! LOL! I've just gotten in the habit of opening both my LJ and DW tabs when I get online, so I don't miss anyone :)

You just need to import all of your entries from your LJ into DW. There's a great post here on using DW (and the differences with LJ). But the import process is very easy:
And most relevantly, here is the FAQ on how to import. It is easy and painless.

The import process is generally very quick - usually an hour or so when there's no major load (like tons of people fleeing LJ). DW is awesome - there are so MANY cool features, like replying to comments in an email message, email postings, crosspostings. Turn on the "beta" features and you'll have access to an incredible new-ish entry posting page (it's still in beta, but it's 3 years old, or so). If you want to import your LJ style (if you'd spent time customizing it), there's a way to do that, too. All without ads. All without censorship.
It's like a little slice of heaven.
