Saw The Force Awakens Today
And it was AWESOME!!!!!!!
And if anyone (cough - George Lucas - cough) had any doubts about Han shooting first, rest assured, a man who'd casually throw an enemy into the mouth of a rampaging monster (what where those things called??? Raznors, Ravenors?) wouldn't have hesitated to shoot Greedo first.
And likely spoilers in the comments, so be warned.

Saw it twice on opening weekend, and I must say, it's actually better the second time. No lie.

It was brilliant and beautiful and everything I'd hoped for back when TPM was released, but never got.
And now, two years until the next one? Grrrrrr.

As for standing in line, I managed to avoid that all the way around: my sister and b-i-l took me on Friday. The b-i-l went early with his niece and stood in line. It was a late showing, at a small theater, so it was only about half full anyway. And I took my folks on Saturday morning with tickets I won at work for an exclusive company showing. Again, no line. So, we avoided the hassle and still had a great time.
And if it makes you feel any better, you only have to wait a year and a half. Episode VIII premieres on May 26, 2017. ;)

I had debated buying advance tickets, but I knew that the local theatres would be pretty full. My plan had been to see an early morning show on Christmas Day, but surprise! None of the local theaters were opened early yesterday. So I got up and out to see the 10am show at a movie theater about 25 miles away - it's one of the largest ones in the area and has decent parking and highway access (the weather's been really lousy here and I didn't want to get drenched either coming or going.
And I was surprised that the 10am show was pretty much sold out by the time the endless trailers started to run (no Deadpool, sadly).
Will probably go again next week - maybe even on New Year's Eve, as I don't have any plans.

THIS. So. Much. This. Why doesn't Lucas get this about Han, or get that that's why we love Han so much?.

There were many moments of the movie that practically had me on my feet, cheering - but this one was the best of all. He just tossed the guy into the creature's mouth like it was nothing. No moral ambiguity there. Han Solo is a bad ass. Was a bad ass. Will always BE a bad ass. No question.

(and I think I am going to see it again tomorrow)

I would have liked to have seen the original release again in the theater - not the crappy re-cut that Lucas insists is HIS vision - but that only exists on a rare and now very hard to find set of DVDs (and if you've got em, the original VHS tapes).

So who looks good in orange: rebel alliance pilots! But now they wear red.

What I loved were all the call backs to the original - Finn activating the game board on the Millennium Falcon, Rey pulling out the small automated training ball that Ben used with Luke, Han FINALLY giving Chewie's cross-bow a try.
It was terrific and I can't wait to see it again.
