Just finished watching this episode. There's the White Collar I know and love (well, more or less).

So, first off, Matt Bomer deserves some serious props for his acting in this episode. Serious, serious, serious props. IMHO all of the actors upped the stakes this season but Matt's performances as of late have been beyond words. As a fan of Traveler from way back when, it is so so so so exciting to see him excel so much in this role this season! ::gets off soapbox::

I loved this episode. It had emotional whump (come on, though, really, the man has dodged just about every pysical weapon someone could direct his way throughout the course of this series, just a mere cut would have been enough if I could see some canon Peter concern over it).

The scene after they captured Rebecca/Rachel, when Peter asked Neal how he knew she wouldn't have shot him, was stellar. That moment, even though I wish we would have gotten just a glimpse more of Peter being worried about Neal's irrational disregard for his life, was quite possibly one of the most emotional and one of my favorite for Neal's character. Initially, before I saw next week's promo/rest of this episode, I thought in that moment that this must have been what the writers were thinking when they had Neal tell Peter conmen had to "hit rock bottom before you can change" in Scott Free. However, with Neal's still present interest in finding this diamond, maybe I was wrong.

I think what I loved most about this episode was that it can move forward either way. Initially, when I was first getting edgy about the lack of a renewal, I was angry because I thought that we wouldn't get a closure in a series finale because it seemed like they were building something too big to resolve in the time that was left. This episode changed my opinion of that. I can easily see them taking this current arc for another season, keeping up with the excitement (and hopefully Neal and Peter's friendship!). But I can also see them closing this season in a way that would satisfy the fan's clear thirst for the bromance they have created if for some reason we don't get a renewal. Tie all of the loose ends from seasons past? Maybe not. But heal the bromance? IMO, I think so. I just hope that they knew which way they were headed before they filmed it, so we don't end up with something open ended and get no conclusion (like in Traveler, not that I am still bitter...). ::continues to picket for renewal::

Other amazing things about this episode: Rebecca. I love her and I hate her all at the same time. I feel that she is a better villain than any other on this show and a great antithesis for Neal - so similar yet altogether so very, very different. Mozzie's dinner on the floor, so incredibly cute. The random Peter one-line banters toward Neal, which I think shows that his anger is slowly dissipating. And last but not least, Elizabeth in all her amazingness.

Things that still confuse me include Bruce (I cringed when Peter sent Elizabeth to him for protection), El's quick job offer, the lack of Satchmo, and how Hagen and Rebecca even met in the first place. Hmm...

Thank you for reading if you've made it this far, and thank you again for posting these each week!
