White Collar RPS Ficlet - Just a Lesbian from Oregon

"Hon?"
Simon was in the closet - the literal one in their bedroom, not a metaphorical one. Not that Simon had ever really been in the closet.
Truth be told, it was really just his closet, since most of Simon's collection of suits and shirts and casualwear had been relocated to the one in the fourth bedroom. They had talked about having that room converted into one big closet - a "total wardrobe solution" as the over-the-top interior designer called it. Matt was actually a little embarrassed that he owned so much clothing.
Somewhere, somehow, he'd become a clothes horse.
But today wasn’t about redoing a midsized bedroom into a huge closet. Today, he was packing for his relocation to New York and Simon was giving him a hand, picking out some suits for the occasional formal occasion when he couldn't get away with wearing "Neal's" stuff. There were piles of casual clothes strewn across the bed and he was deciding if he really needed to take four pair of khakis with him. It wasn’t like he couldn’t get what he needed in New York.
Simon called out again. "Hon? Sweetheart?"
Matt stuffed a new package of underpants into the corner of the suitcase. It was a ritual. New season, new underpants. And with four successful seasons under his belt, he wasn't going to jinx it. "Yes, oh delight of my life."
Simon came out of the closet, holding a handful of shirts. His favorites, to be honest. "Why do you have a dozen different plaid shirts?"
Matt frowned, that couldn't be right. "A dozen?"
Simon went through them one by one. "Red and blue checks. Red and white, with a fine green stripe. Blue and white gingham. Another blue and white checked shirt... And another. And another." He tossed each shirt on the bed and Matt felt his cheeks flame. There was a pattern here, one that included a lot of right angles.
Confronted with the evidence, Matt really wasn't sure he could continue to deny the truth. "Okay, Simon - you've uncovered my dirtiest secret. I'm not a gay boy from Springs, Texas. I'm really just a lesbian from Oregon."

A/N: In an email conversation with friends last week, I forwarded a set of recently released pics of Matt in that blue and white plaid shirt he wore for a TV Guide photoshoot (courtesy of my friendbuefo at her Tumblr, Archivistsrock), with the note that Matt wears so much plaid that he dresses like a lesbian from Oregon. winterstar95 challenged me to write a fic with that title. Here it is.

But silly, Simon. You can't comment on his clothes! You make HORRIBLE clothing choices (or lack of choices and just throwing things on?)! ;p ;p (but he is getting much much much better now. Because of Matt... and Matt dressing better is because of Neal... so thanks White Collar!).
