More on Promptfest and another poll

I knew there was one very important question I forgot to ask, when should Promptfest start?

[Poll #1998541]

My personal preference would be to get this started this coming Friday and it would run through Friday, February 27.

Promptfest - Follow Up Poll

I was surprised and very pleased with the positive reaction to my post about having another promptfest. I'd like to further refine the event, based on participant interest.

So, a poll:

In The Interest of Science...

Blame this one squarely on [livejournal.com profile] sinfulslasher...because we were talking about kittehs and sillez and the joys and tribulations of being a cat slave. I had to wonder, what percentage of fan fic writers who are cat slaves are also devotees of slave fic...

[Poll #1978550]

I am sure that the data from this poll is somehow fundamentally flawed, but you should direct all such complaints to [livejournal.com profile] sinfulslasher

Community Rewatch - A Poll

The weekly White Collar community rewatches are a terrific way for fangirls to get together and squee as one over our favorite show. When we started out, the rewatches were on Monday nights at 9:30 Eastern and for a few weeks, we had a second scheduled rewatch on Sunday mornings for the non-US timezone fans. But after the first couple of weeks, interest in the Sunday morning get-togethers waned.

I know that the interest in the Monday night rewatch (now at 9:00 PM Eastern) is still strong, but alas, for me, it's rarely doable. It's not the day but the time. I have a very hard time staying awake after 9 PM, particularly on Monday nights. I'm not interested in changing the Monday rewatch, but adding a second rewatch to the schedule.

So, a poll:

Color Me Slightly Crazy

Just posted this about the delay in starting Round 4 for [livejournal.com profile] wcpairings, I'm working on a bunch of posts for the ramp up to [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_bb, and on a personal writing front, I am seriously behind on both of my fics for [livejournal.com profile] wc_reverse_bb, and the next round of Remix Redux is opening for sign ups, so what the hell am I doing thinking about starting a new comm for White Collar crossover stories.

You see, I was having dinner with the lovely and equally crazy [livejournal.com profile] miri_thompson and [livejournal.com profile] theatregirl7299 on Saturday night and we were talking about crossover stories and how great it would be to have a place to post them. Next thing I knew, I was talking about a 'fest where people leave prompts and ideas and good stuff like that.

Of course [livejournal.com profile] theatregirl7299 is egging me on, especially since Pairings in delayed until the middle of next autumn, but I'm wondering about the interest in it.

Therefore, a poll:

Promptfest Anyone?

2013 was the first year I didn't host any sort of prompt fest on my journal since I started in fandom, which was a total shame, because I've always felt like these fests are a great way to get people involved in writing who might otherwise not want to publish in the greater community.

They are also a lot of work, and I did a terrible job of managing the last two I ran, never going back after the first few days and totaling up the contributions. It is a lot of work and for various (and probably inexcusable reasons) I fell down on the job.

Looking back at 2013, I think I didn't do a 'fest because the year started out on a really bad foot and it felt like - at least for the first four months - I was playing catch-up with my life. Then I (and a lot of other people in WC fandom) fell into a whole bunch of challenges - Pairings, WC Big Bang, then other big bangs and then Nano and Yuletide. I know that the White Collar Reverse Big Bang in on, but it's early days yet and perhaps the time is right to host a 'fest.

That being said, here's a poll:

[Poll #1950404]

I want your input because without you, this would be meaningless. If I do this, I'd like to start it tonight or early tomorrow so we can spend the holiday writing!

A Poll - Your Input Appreciated

I am working on the Big Bang of Doom. There are some obscure references in it and right now, I've judiciously included some links in the body of the story, but a recent post on [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants has made me rethink this.

Hence, a poll:

Community Rewatch - A Poll

The Tuesday night community rewatches have become the highlight of my week and, well, I'm kind of greedy. Last night, before we started watching Out of the Box, I suggested that there is a second scheduled rewatch. My first proposal was, let's watch S4, then I backtracked because most people may not have S4 (since it's not yet out on DVD or Netflix, only iTunes or Amazon). So I suggested watching S3, but there was a strong preference NOT to go out of order, and if we were to watch two episodes a week, we should keep going in order, one episode on Tuesday, and then another episode on whatever night the second rewatch is scheduled for.

ETA: There is a lack of clarity here. We're continuing with Season 2, and watching it in order, so if we do go for a second night each week, we'll have consecutive Season 2 episodes. Sorry for any confusion, my friends.

We couldn't come to a consensus about what night or time for the second community rewatch, so I said I'd post a poll. Thus...a poll!

A Poll About Writing

This is sort of a variation on a post I made about a year ago, commenting on the frequency in which I used certain phrases in my fic, specifically "obscene circus ponies."  I also realize that there are certain story elements that I repeat in unrelated fics, e.g., Neal going to work for Stuart Gless at Atlantic Partners (Neal had rescued Gless' daughter in [Poll #1796717]

I want you to be honest, brutally so.   I am worried that readers will perceive this as a sign of writerly laziness or worse, a lack of imagination.

In a weird mood...and a poll

Had bad nightmares last night, really horrific - but not out of a horror movie-type.  These were realistic and traumatic and like nothing that I've ever had before.  I don't even want to say what they were because that would make them real.[Poll #1780947]Open to: all, results viewable to: all

The Weekend, So Far (Embedded Poll for WC Fic Options, Too)

Given last night's mini trauma - today was surprisingly okay.  Woke up waaaay to early (4:30) but fell back to sleep until 9 am (what a luxury).  Met F for brunch, and listened to her vent for 2 hours - I like listening, I think it's what makes a friend a friend.[Poll #1544009]Would love to hear from you with other story ideas, too.
