Warnings/Enticements/Triggers: None
Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has never known it, but he has always been the Force’s Champion, destined to suffer infinite sadness in defense of the Light. On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.
But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.
Or,
Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.
He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.
Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.
Chapter Summary: Back on Coruscant, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan slip back into their roles as Master and Apprentice, reconnecting with their Jedi family, catching up on everything that’s happened in their three months’ absence.

Another 4k this week, also a lot of editing. We’re coming up on the end of Book III, and the last chapter is going to be quite a banger. I’ve spent a fair bit of time editing it. The last few weeks have seen a lot of changes in the story going forward, new plot threads have begun to develop and these all need to tie back into what will likely be this most pivotal chapter in the story so far, so I have to get everything right.
And yeah, I’m dry-soaping my hands in delight, because it’s gonna be a doozy.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This chapter and next week’s were originally intended as a single chapter and were supposed to be the first chapter of Book IV, but Book IV will begin with a time skip, so having them there really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I had wanted to end the Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan part of Book III with The Kiss, but even though it was the perfect falling action, it just didn’t work out.
Padmé’s past her first trimester, so the information embargo is off, yay!
Good cover, Obi-Wan, thinking about the babies coming to the Temple. Not remembering what happened on Polis Massa.
But yeah, it really would be kind of weird, having more than three days to train Luke, wouldn’t it? Or maybe train Leia. Or have both of them as your padawans. After all, Qui-Gon is correct, the only exception to the rule against two padawans at once is twins.
We shall see what happens. Who knows, maybe those babies won’t end up at the Temple.
snickers…
And beyond the good news that Anakin imparts, we have a bit of plot wrap up here, friendships on display first and foremost.
In fanon, Micah Giiett and Qui-Gon are often portrayed as age-mates, friends from the creche and then clanmates. I’ve read numerous stories about how badly Qui-Gon took Micah’s death in the Yinchorri Uprising. But that really is fanon (at least as far as I’ve read, which isn’t very far at all and please correct me if I’m wrong). Per Wookieepedia, Micah and Plo Koon were BFFs, they were constantly ribbing each other, challenging each other, and when Micah was killed, Plo took on Micah’s padawan, Bultar Swan, as his own, finishing her training.
But who cares? I certainly don’t.
I’m repeating what I put in the header notes to this week’s chapter here because I will delete them when the story is complete, and I want to preserve my thoughts.
Last week, this story was subjected to two very unpleasant attacks from guest accounts, denigrating first the writing and then attacking my creativity. It was pretty cleat that whoever wrote both of these comments hadn’t read this story, they cited nothing about the work or even about the fandom. They were getting their jollies from trying to hurt an author of a somewhat popular story. The comments didn’t hurt me one bit, but the result was that I have closed this work to guest comments. I had closed all of my other works to guest comments after the great AI scrape, but I wanted to keep this one opened since it was my active WIP and I often get genuine comments from guest accounts.
But clearly, it’s ragebait for someone and I’d rather not deal with that unpleasantness again.
Thank you to the readers who replied in the comments to the attacker, I appreciate how civilly you came to my defense. This means a lot to me.
Ironically, later that day, a registered commenter who had taken issue very nastily with the blossoming of the long-promised Qui/Obi kinda-sorta apologized for their over-the-top reaction against that pairing a few weeks back. And while I’d considered it, I don’t think it’s the unmasked persona of the aforementioned ragebait guest commenter. The guest commenter had a rather surprisingly good command of the English language, while this being writes like a sixteen year old hopped up on bad weed and Red Bull). I was prepared to let it go, but then I saw their vulgar and absolutely unnecessary reply to another comment in their own thread and elected to block them.
For the record, this story is and has always been Qui/Obi. It has been in the tags since Chapter 1. The romance between these characters is probably a much smaller part of the story than a traditional Qui/Obi fic, but it’s there, and there will be some R-rated moments, but the rating will not go much higher than that.
If this pairing is not your thing, I encourage you to embrace the philosophy, Ship and Let Sail and I hope you can read around the parts you don’t care for.
One final thought. I am writing this story because it pleases me, it fulfills a need in my creative soul. I would write it whether or not I had a place to publish it. That it has fans is a bonus and does a lot to keep my creative energy going. Sometimes, there are things said in the comments that steer the story, spark an idea, make me consider a plot point. I love when that happens.
As always, thank you everyone for your continued love and support. May the Force be with you.
Hope you enjoy the chapter.
