Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has never known it, but he has always been the Force’s Champion, destined to suffer infinite sadness in defense of the Light. On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.

But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.

Or,

Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.

He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.

Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.

Chapter Summary: Bail and Qui-Gon talk. Bail and Obi-Wan talk. And most importantly, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon talk.

Things get sorted out.

368,310 words, 66-ish chapters

Not as many words this week as last week, but I spent a fair bit of time editing, which always means I’m cutting words and not adding. Still, a bit more than 4k this week, which is still very satisfying. We’re also coming up on the second anniversary for this story. I started writing it on July 11, 2023. I should do something nice for that milestone. Maybe publish a spoiler here?

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I don’t have a lot to say about this week’s chapter, other than the theme is communication.

I really love writing people talking about important things, rather than letting the plot get driven by miscommunication (which drove me crazy in my earlier fandoms). So we have Bail and Obi-Wan talking about what they will mean to each other, and most importantly, we have Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan finally talking about their feelings.

But only after Obi-Wan giving the Lecture on Attachment. I’m pretty proud of this one. I can hear Spock nodding in agreement and Jim Kirk weeping as his heart is breaking. And agreeing, because he’s a Starfleet captain and he knows his duty (until he’s got the chance to steal the Enterprise and rescue his husband who isn’t dead).

Cyral’s back and she’s just lovely. I feel so sorry that she and Ducca didn’t make it for the long run. The failure of their relationship is one of effects of Obi-Wan’s weird Force spill-over. And truth be told, I just couldn’t write Ducca. She never gelled in my brain. I tried making her into a poet, but that didn’t work. Then an artisan. Then a business being. Nothing seemed right and the dacha just got too crowded.

Truth about the upcoming two chapters. They weren’t supposed to be in Book III. They were supposed to be a single chapter in Book IV, but well, they really don’t belong there because Book IV is, hmmm, well, you’ll find out. So if the ending of this chapter feels like an ending, it’s because it was an ending of sorts.

Sorry for the really short meta this week. Have a fair bit going on and not a lot to say.

Hope you enjoy the chapter.
