And yes it is hard to see Neal so filled with self-loathing. It's not his natural state - but when he realizes what's happened, he can't help it.

I can't recall the "big ball of id" fic - and now I need to go through my entire masterlist to find it, but yeah - Neal has never fully appreciated the consequences of his actions. And those consequences have been extreme.

One hopes that this will be a wakeup call.
